Wasn't I just praising jet hued gowns of Oscars past? Call it red carpet ESP, or a mere coincidence, but many ladies dared to go bold in noir colored gowns at this year's Oscars. Some of them I love — Penelope's feathery Chanel and Swank's embellished Versace — and some fell flat for me, mainly, Garner's ruffled Oscar de la Renta. Alas, these all have something in common: they're black, but far from boring.

overall i think they made great choices, i was just surprised to see so much black..

6I loved Laura Linney's gown. I always feel black is a bit safe, and like when jewel tones are more prevalent. Each of these did take some risks though in order to stand out from the crowd.

9i love jennifer garner and hilary swank's dresses the most of this bunch. i like both of them in general and these dresses were gorgeous!
one small thing though, it looked like jg's hair got messed up on the red carpet or something, because it seemed off when she presented. but overall, very lovely!
10there were a lot of beautiful dresses at the Oscars but my favorite was also Hilary Swank. I loved Cameron's dress also mostly because it stood out in the sea of black dresses.
11I was beyond bored with the fashion at the Oscars this year. This was the best these women could do? Where's the funeral? Vanessa Paradis always looks tres chic, but the rest look drab. And Ellen Page should just go home if she's not going to make any type of effort. She's 21 so she has no excuse to wear something like that.

22I was going to say the exact same think is fleurfairy. Yawn to the dresses this year; I don't think there was an iconic one in the bunch. Don't get me wrong, a lot of the women looked great, but I don't know what you'd call "THAT DRESS" from the 2008 Oscars.
23I just think black is boring...it's never been, and never will be, a favorite of mine. Some of these dresses ARE very pretty though.
