Naughty Natasha Poly. Or shall I say naughty Jean Paul Gaultier for having his model smoke on the Hermès runway! I'm not so intrigued by the clothes, but I am drawn in by what's happening all around. I certainly don't condone smoking, but it works with the mature collection. And the Persian rug-covered catwalk takes me to an exotic place, far, far away. Though I wouldn't realistically wear this look, I dig the combination of the rug, cigarette, and belted coat. Do you?

Very chic!
1Chic indeed, but somehow we could do without the cigarette...
2that model's cheek bones are disgusting.
3ha ha. I know some people definitely get offended by smoking, but I think in this context it works. I don't know too many impressionable young children that pay attention to Hermes.
4there are other things should could have been holding that convey mature and chic...like a blackberry, a starbucks cup, i can even picture a set of car keys...it doesn't have to be a cigarette and frankly i think it looks disgusting.
5Ahhhh I know I shouldn't like it, but oh, it just works too well.
6Though after reading the comments, I do agree with SmallTownFab - there *are* other things he very well could have substituted in the cigarette's place.
she seems to be channeling Margot Tenenbaum to me.
7fudgeit! YES! Totally Margot Tenenbaum. Good call.
8i hate smoking, but i don't care when other people do it (as long as they're not around me). everything about this image is so chic.
9This look and atmosphere could have easily gone over with just an antique cigarette-holder...why the actual lit cigarette is BEYOND ME!!!
10While the cigarette makes the whole look very old hollywood and classy, obviously it sets a bad impression, fashion and smoking shouldnt be hand in had....
11but ya, it does look kinda good
love the coat but find the smoking model in poor taste.
12Hahaha! nothing says runway model to me more than a chick smoking and then ashing on a persian rug!
13I abso-LUTELY love it for what it is. That coat is maaaaarvelous against the black. Fab color.
14the model doesn't look good...c'mon eat a sandwich!!!!
15I hate cigarette's smoke so anything that involves smoking is disgusting to me....
16I love the coat do....
17Oooh, very Margot Tenenbaum. I like.
18I like it, it definitley adds to the whole aura. EVEN though smoking is bad....
19love the look minus the whole smoking thing. ick
20I love wrap coats!
21The smoking is entirely unnecessary.
22Très chic! Although I wouldn't wear it.
23sas cig, it would be good.
24the cig isn't needed.... it's just portraying an imagine that is unhealthy.
Firstly, I
25sexy and sophisticated. in other words, me.
26Hmmm. Got cut off.
27I think it was set up to be provocative and to make the headlines - and look! it did!
A lot of people smoke, regardless of what the fashion industry says, or does, about it, and having models walk down the catwalk with or without cigarettes is hardly going to change that. Besides, a lot of the girls who didn't walk down this catwalk with a cigarette were probably sucking on them backstage anyway.
definetly not hot
28Cigarettes might not be good for you, and in this day and age it generally brings to mind people who don't take very good care of themselves, but this denotes a classic look from before everyone knew the dangers of cigarettes, and it certainly looks chic!
29i like it!
30its unique
Eh it's okay...
31hmmm i don't know. it's certainly bad for the model's health but it kinda works on the runway.
32i love it , it look goos!
33Is smoking the 'new' witch hunt?
34I like it on the photo
because it seems that everybody
don't ever consider smokers' freedom.
Yes they do have one.
love the rug...and the smoking
35love the coat too
36Hate the message. Love the look.
37Smoking? Trashy.
38I don't like it. I think it would be looked down upon by others.
39Its so cliché
40The coat looks nice...hate the cigarette - we are fighting to get everyone to stop; get it OUT of the public places, and THIS? HOW irresponsible.
That model needs to EAT. Im so sick of the near death look on models bony bods. Women with the curves they were meant to have are sexy! You can have curves and NOT be fat...and look terrific in clothing. Example:
Jessica Simpson; Raquel Welch. FABulous bods. We need to get away from forcing girls to look dead to be able to be a model. Watching American's Top Model sometimes disgusts me as much as I sometimes enjoy it, the mean things they make those girls do.
Its pointless. Bootcamp I guess but still, walk around in shoes 2 sizes too small? Should be NO reason to need to know how to handle that.
And YES smokers have rights: to smoke IN THEIR HOME, HEIR CAR...or wear an air tight helmet and smoke away...but IF the smoker is blowing that smoke in public air - they are infringing upon the rights of the majority. And 2nd hand smoke gives cancer also.
41They DON'T have the right to do that.
TIABIA SAID:
This look and atmosphere could have easily gone over with just an antique cigarette-holder...why the actual lit cigarette is BEYOND ME!!!
I agree.
WHY indeed Tia; but the modeling industry has done MANY things that have done nothing but HARM - first eating disorders -another I can think of is remember when they started that heroin addict waif look? THAT was really bad. Who knows why "the industry"
wants to concentrate on things that are harmful and destructive to the model/s.
On America's Top Model, did you see the ep where they made them walk around in platform shoes that must have been at least 5 inches high? NOT worth breaking someones ankle/s..that could be a lifetime of pain and problems and byebye modeling career. Ridiculous.
42Im sorry; wish we had edit ability -
I meant to say "...harmful to the model/s AND young girls out here aspiring to be one or just thinking THAT is what they have to be like to be acceptable.
43cancer = not chic
44why doesn't the model carry around a mirror and just snort lines while she's at it? or how bout tap into a vein and shoot some heroin? geez, come on people, smoking doesn't deserve to be glamourized. my step-grandmother died a horrid death from lung cancer and couldn't stop smoking even after they removed half of her insides. talk about gross and not fashionable.
45im anti-smoke. that cigarette is a BIG NO-NO!
Other than that, the the belted coat look is pretty chic
