Let me tell ya, coming to LA Fashion Week, I was not expecting to claim Nicholai by Nicky Hilton as my favorite collection. The naughty equestrian clothes were desirable, but the designer herself was delightful. A supportive big sis Paris showed up backstage and naturally caused a frenzy. Oh, but before approaching Nicky and the photogs, Paris asked to see a mirror to inspect herself in her red Nicholai dress!
When the chaos died down, I chatted with Nicky, who immediately complimented me on my H&M scarf! Despite giving over a dozen interviews, she remained cheerful and sweet. It looks like designing comes pretty naturally to this — ahem — Hilton. As if things couldn't have gotten any better than meeting Nicky and sitting amongst her family during the show, they did. As we were waiting for the valet to bring our car, Nicky drove right past us in boyfriend David Katzenberg's Range Rover, but not before giving us a smile, a wave . . . and a kiss. Aw!
Congrats on another successful collection, Nicky. How do you feel?
I’m excited, I’m relieved, I’m thrilled. Everything went really well and smoothly so I’m very content.
What was your inspiration behind this collection?
The inspiration this season was equestrian, but I wanted to make it a naughty and nice. It was equestrian meets bondage and S&M, hence the latex leggings, patent leather buckles, and the whip. I wanted it to be sophisticated, tasteful, and edgy at the same time.

What is your favorite piece from the collection?
I’m a big jacket person so I think all the jackets — the trenches, the little leather jackets, the patent leather jackets, the blazers.
Did you come across any obstacles this season?
I really had a vision and knew what I wanted this season. I knew the hair I wanted, I knew the makeup. I love the riding hat element. I thought it was very fashion forward. It was very easy this time around.
Who are your style icons?
I love Anna Wintour, but who doesn’t? She has the best closet in America. Cameron Diaz has a really fun, quirky sense of style.
What are your guilty pleasures?
Celebrity Rehab, Cartier, and jewelry.

I like some of the pieces...
1it's nice but it doesnt really blow me away.
2I do have to say that her collection has matured from when she first started.
3I'm having the feeling seen that done that
Not a fan of it
4My expectations were really low, so I must say she pleasantly surprised me. More imaginative than anything LC could come up with.
But still, I felt like I was watching an ad for bebe. Almost too wearable. But overall, I think a lot of young women will dig it.
5i'm no treally a big fan of the clothes- but i like her better than the other hilton! and i think she actually does more work than the other one too
6I like some of this and she seems nice.
7I was surprised by this collection.I like some of these pieces and she seems pretty genuine.
8It's nice to see that a celebrity has actually learned something about design. Didn't she go to Parson's?
I thought she had a strong collection and stronger than lauren. It is kind of expected since this is her second line and 4th time at some fashion week. Most of her clothes are wearable, not necessarily orginal (but what fashion is orginal these days). Overall, mark improvement from her first couple of time and she will also get better with time. Thank God she did not listen to the haters and quit.
9I'm so surprised by Nicky's line! When she first came on the fashion scene she seemed to be a little young in her designs...however this new collection looks like she has grown up a little bit. I'm impressed by the amount of designs that could be taken straight from the runway to real life! Good job!!
10The equestrian hats are sooo fab...I want one! I think Nicky totally accomplished what she was going for...congrats to her
11i cant help but feel that Nicky is only doing this to try and keep up with Paris...
12Very sleek I like It!
13some of the looks are ehh and some are very cute! good for her. it is LA fashion week after all, most of the collections are glorified basics.
i think she doesn't want to be in the limelight, she just wants to be legit in the fasion industry so i guess she's trying to not be so celeb-like. i know she turned down the simple life because of school and she didn't want the fame that it would come with. so i dont think she wants to "keep up" with paris...
14I dunno TFS, I think Paris should be the one trying to keep up with Nicky. She seems to actually be accomplishing something. Although if you just meant keeping up with the attention Paris gets, then maybe. Although I seem to remember them being seen together a lot more back in the days, then Nicky went her separate way to a calmer, more productive lifestyle.
15I have a few shirts from her Chick line...and they have held up really well
16I had low expectations so I have to admit I'm surprised that some pieces look genuinely wearable. Glad to see that one of the sisters is at least trying to have a career.
One last thing: Cartier is a guilty pleasure??
17Some of it is ok.
18But why do celebrities always have to make so booring clothes?
(hers are not that borin, compared to some other celebrity collections)
Hi guys! Yes, Nicky spent a semester (or two?) at FIT in New York. But as an FIT alum I must say that isn't enough time to get a rich fashion education. Oh well...xo
19Cool that you got an interview with her. i love those hats!
20It's not bad, but not my style at all.
21its alright, i liked some of the pieces
22i like her collection! it is very simple yet chic, very wearable:D
23i'm not completely blown away, but i also didn't have very high expectations, so i think this is a cute collection. i like the equestrian meets s&m theme. it makes the otherwise rather run-of-the-mill collection more quirky.
24GigglyGirl -i agree, i think nicky is the one with talent, and paris is the one with the looks and no brains, not in a bad way cus i think paris is great!
25but yes i do like what nicky's doing. :] be interesting to see what prices they will be...
It doesn't look bad and I really respect her, but the whole equestrian theme was already used by Balenciaga and Dsquared (fall 06), and I'm sure whoever remembers those collections (especially balenciaga's, and kate hudson's spread in vogue) must think she could've tried to be a bit more original, to say the least.
26I would totally wear some of the pieces from her collection.. It has that simplistic elegance mixed with just enough eclectism that I love. Congrats Nicky!
27Wow I really like her collection. Not only is it wearable, but it is interesting. I like her twists on the classic pieces the most.
