Just because you have the word bridesmaid attached to your name for the next couple months doesn't mean you have to dress tacky at your friend's wedding. We all know bridesmaid dresses have a tainted reputation but it's clearly warranted. I mean, who wants to walk around in ill-colored taffeta all night?
If the bride is your close friend or sister, suggest that the wedding party wear nontraditional frocks. Short, bright, floral . . . they will all set the tone for her Spring nuptials. Once you get the the green light, select a dress that will hint — not scream — bridesmaid, and one that will have guests commending, "she'll definitely be able to wear that dress again."

i think the floral is my favorite. looks formal and maid-y without looking perpetually single (which so many do, even the ones at my own wedding sad to say)
1Mine were black with little white polka dots. I wish i could go into the heads of my bridesmaids to find out if they really liked them or if they were just being nice.
2I have sheets that are, like, identical to the blue floral dress in the picture! What about that wear-it-a-million-ways jersey dress that was featured a while ago? I thought that was adorable.
3My maids are all wearing different black dresses that they picked for themselves. I liked the idea of a common link with the color but I wanted them all to find a dress they love and one they are comfortable wearing.
4I like the "Maggy London Silk Halter Dress" but wish it came in a different color.
5I picked gorgeous dresses for my bridesmaids when I got married last summer...they were very 1950s/Marilyn Monroe-esque. In an indigo-blue silk taffeta and they looked so beautiful on all my girls.
Out of these finds, I definitely like the J.Crew one best...I think their bridesmaid dresses are so pretty.
6I love it when people say "You will be able to wear that dress again!" ... Where in the world I am I going to wear a floor length champagne and ivory satin gown again... I even have a strap-less tea length black bridesmaid dress I will very likely never wear again because I just don't think that shiny bridesmaidy material works well and of the places I go! You know, school... work... grocery store
7These dresses are fabulous! It's so nice to see that being a bridesmaid doesn't mean you have to wear a crappy dress anymore!
8my best friend is getting married this summer, and I tried selecting some options that would be re-wearable......... but she ended up finding a different one...... and while it's not UGLY... it's not re-wearable. Oh well.
9My bridesmaids are wearing a blue Maggy London dress and they love it. We got it from Nordstrom.com with a free shipping code. And best of all -- most of their alterations are free! I would highly recommend going this route.
10Hmmm not so sure about the floral one...I like dresses that are a little more classic; that differentiate the BM's from other guests by making them look very formal. I LOVE my bridesmaid's dress for my friend's October wedding...it's a very simple red spaghetti strapped gown with a cool neckline. Only con is that it's floor-length...I really think the length is what makes a BM dress re-wearable or not!
11My bridesmaids are wearing this Priscilla of Boston dress:
They will be wearing it in Tiramisu (read: brown) and I totally think it's wearable again. I could see myself, for example, wearing it to another wedding, a cocktail party, or out to a fancy dinner.
What do you think??
12That link didn't work. Here it is again:

I wore a black satin two piece dress, collared sleeveless and A-line full length skirt, for my friend's wedding. It was simple and the outfit can be worn for other ocassions as a one piece or seperate.
14I like some of these although that last one, ick on the color combo.
15i did what caffee did: let them all pick their own black dress. i had a horrible experience having to buy an expensive ugly dress for my friend's wedding and i didn't want to put anyone else in that boat. often a bridal party is made of girls who are all different shapes and it's hard to find one dress that looks good on them all. i think the kind thing to do is let them pick their own styles in a color of your choice. but, i understand why other people pick one dress. ultimately, it's whatever the bride wants.
16Hey Muppets, yes i think the dress is really pretty but honestly, it does look a bit bridesmaid-y (mainly because the fabric is shiny).
Personally, i don't think i'd be able to wear a dress like that again. For some reason, designers always choose really shiny fabrics when doing bridesmaids dresses. Boo to that!
the only one out of all the options above i'd wear is the blue floral one.
17I like the last Catherine Malandrino but I don't think most bridesmaids would be able/willing to shell out close to $600. The J. Crew one is cute and seems quite practical, though.
18This is the best idea. I did this for my bridesmaids. I had them all wear pretty strapless red & white floral dresses. Truth be told, when the wedding was over, I liked their dresses better than my own. We had an outside wedding, and the simple, elegant dresses were perfect because they weren't stuck in uncomfortable formal dresses during the reception. And they can all totally wear them again.
19you know that famous white dress marilyn monroe wore- the one that she had to hold down when it was blowing up? picture that in black. that's what my bridesmaids wore. it was relatively inexpensive and looked good on all different body types. They were so pretty i bought one for myself! i've worn it to an air force dining out and to another wedding...i know my girls have worn theirs again too

21I love the jcrew collection. I went with chadwick for my girls because they were cheap. They were simple but still wedding like, I don't think any of the girls has worn it again.
22I was fortunate that my cousin chose to let us pick out a dress from a collection that was our favorite and most flattering to our figures. I think that was very kind of her!
