Oh, Tyra. Who knew she would go from model and fresh-faced actress on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air to being the next Martha or Oprah — to being a super brand. Tyra has become a household name, and she's got the upcoming cover of The New York Times Magazine to prove it.
This Sunday, our favorite model mentor will grace the cover of the Sunday weekly with an article about how she is striving to become the next female powerhouse. As the NY Times puts it, "Like her hero, Martha Stewart, Banks wants, most of all, for her name to immediately suggest a distinct point of view. Her brand, like her trademark 'tough but still smiling' smile, is consistent in all her shows: serious about the frivolous; empathetic and empowering, and always, always aimed at young women, across all races. It's girly TV with a punch." We all love her dramatic antics on America's Next Top Model, and she's got the looks and bravada to captivate an audience, so I buy it. Do you?

The reason ANTM is great is because Tyra takes herself SOOOOO seriously that it's funny. "And...the next name........I'm going to call....is.....*blink blink*
But I guess you have to have a pretty hefty ego (ala Martha) to make it in the business.
1I almost thought it was Beyonce on the cover. Good for her though - her brand is still not refined enough but she's getting there! Love it!
2Those are some serious hips! thats all I noticed.
3Why God Why!
4I agree with Krradford. I don't think she's refined enough yet to become the next Oprah or Martha, but I think she will be eventually. I've noticed since she's started her talk show she's becoming increasingly involved with projects, so she's well on her way.
5holy hips! yea she does resemble Beyonce.
6she looks crazy on that cover... but I do love her! I enjoy her talk show for sure!
7Boo. She is self centered and self obsessed. Who wants to take advice from a fashion model?? Bleh!
8I cannot STAND Tyra Banks.
9Something Mary Tyler Moore-ish about the look too. Hmm, I think they are giving her too much credit when they compare her to those names. She's a supermodel though - so why wouldn't she be self-obsessed Jenniegirl friend they all are.
10i am not a fan of tyra somehow everything comes back to her and it annoys me.
11I can't stand tyra. But then again Oprah and Martha only rate slightly higher imo. Am I the only one who sees something seriously perverse about a person becoming a brand?
12Hmm...
13Tyra is almost as annoying as Martha and Oprah, so maybe she is on her way.
14She's still so model material. What an hourglass.
15Ever watched her talk show that is on TV now? It is hilarious. She takes herself very seriously in the talk show too.
16I find her desperate for attention and I don't think her shows are good. Martha has a talent for domestic things and Oprah seems very personable and does good interviews. I don't see any talent like that in Tyra.
17LOVE her. GO TYRA!!!
18I love Tyra!!!! luv luv luv...and i luv my Oprah....I think Tyra dosent need to become the next Oprah they are both gr8. but Martha....the hell with her
19Yuck, Spare me the nonsense. She's not the image she portrays on television. She is extremely self centered and doesn't actually have a concern for equality like she claims. She is SO fake!!
20I like her and her personality, but her style in the Tyra show truly sucks. She's trying to imitate Oprah so badly it shows, and how! The whole show imitates the Oprah formula, right from the way she enters the hall, gives wavey kisses to the audience, to the way the camera shows audience members applauding & mesmerized with her, and the way she talks and tries to be funny. She also sucks up to Oprah whenever she gets the chance (remember the 'Way less than Oprah' T-shirt she wore on the show that was supposed to reveal how much money she makes? Or her 'I didn't say it Oprah...SHE did' to Aanchal in ANTM?)... in short, if she lays off the Oprah fetish and truly tries to be a brand of her own (i.e. HERSELF), she'd be great.
21love Top Model, and like her as a model, but I really think she's crazy and I can't stand her on any of her shows. then again, I don't like Oprah (I know, I'm like the only person in the world - I just think she's arrogant and overhyped) or Martha. I'm just so tired of these moguls dominating every single facet of the industry - it's like, haven't you done enough?! don't you have enough money already?! I personally don't care what Oprah, Martha, or Tyra have to say about anything, but maybe that's just because I haven't been brainwashed into worshipping idiotic television hosts who think they're experts on everything. call me olf-fashioned, but I'd much rather look up to people like Mother Teresa, people who are actually trailblazers and actually make a difference...
22i only watch her show if the topic is something that i am quite curious about. she knows how to host and she's not boring but i think she does act a little bit too self centered to be very endearing. And though she's bearable to watch, her comedian thing gets old fast!
antm is pretty hilariously fake when you dissect it (i still find it VERY entertaining and i'm not a tv person).. there are 2 great bloggers that dissect it

Crazy indeed, lizlee!
Talk shows are so sad. Self-centred, yes, and so commercial. Good on her though for branching out etc. Definitely ambitious. Noy my cupa tea but whatevs.
24She's trying to be an Oprah, but she needs to branch out from the whole beauty n fashion business
25go Tyra! and i'm so glad she didn't allow them to airbrush her natural curves.
26she really, really should not have her own show. on antm she is entertaining, thats for sure, but thats about all i can take!!!
27I love her, but buying her stuffs ...not so sure~!
