Viktor & Rolf have always set themselves apart with their Dutch eccentricity and experimental runways. They came onto the scene in 1996 and delivered their creations as art, or more accurately, as an art installation. For an upcoming retrospective, instead of featuring their clothes in the normal mannequin format, this dynamo duo chose something more . . . freaky.

Raise your hand if dolls freak you out a little bit? With their pale stillness and beady eyeballs, dolls have gotten a bad rap (Chucky, hello?). Fifty-five lucky dolls are to be decked out in V&R garb fashioned for an exhibit at the Barbican Art Gallery in London. The dolls will also be all prinked up with full hair and makeup. In Sunday's New York Times Magazine, Viktor Horsting elaborated, “Every garment is like a couture garment. Everything was scaled down — the embroideries, the prints, all the accessories.” This one wins fabulous to me, by a doll hair, what say you?

Kinda freaky but definitely cool!
Hey, at least the dolls have a more realistic body size than most runway models.
Freaky but really interesting.
definitely, freaky. who want the doll that makes you scare when you wake up in the middle of the night
Fabulous because it's freaky.
Absolutely fabulous!
I'm scared of dolls. Even Barbie!
Fabulous! I want them!
Fab because doing miniatures are very difficult.
Fabulous, especially b/c of that "I love you" dress.
Completely FAB!
My mom has a collection of antique dolls that I always thought were freaky; however, the idea of using dolls to highlight fashion is fabulous. I love it!
I'm terrified of dolls. Freaky!

That's pretty cool. If I were in London I would totally go see that exhibit!
REALLY freaky to me.
I dig it. That's a killer picture, by the way.
Kinda freaky, but kinda cool at the same time.
uh-oh.
They look like Chucky!!Freaky!
The dolls remind me of the "Sex and the City" episode where Stanford was dating the guy with the doll collection on his bed and they had to move everyone before they had sex.
One night while they were making out, they didn't move the dolls from the bed and Stanford kicked and broke one of the dolls.
Love that episode.
Freaky, but definitely interesting
the clothes are fab, but dolls ARE freaky!
i can't even look at the picture, let alone the clothes! It further perpetuates my fear of dolls coming to life.
Omg, that doll with the embroidered "I love you" is the stuff of my nightmares!
dolls scare the poo out of me.

Freaky AND fabulous! I'm a sucker for creepy/cool stuff like this.
they're a little of both
I saw these when they were in the Selfridges Wonder Room. They were just cool, not creepy.
OMG i hate hate HATE dolls!!!!!!!!!! they are y far the CREEPIEST things ever!!
The fasion dolls are not a new thing. During WWII in Paris a designer decided to make that years fashion designs in minature instead of stopping all together due to limited supplies of materials. It was called Theatre de la Mode and it toured Europe and America until finally they were aquired by the Maryhill Museum of Art in Washington state, where they are still on display now. I have to admit that it was a bit freaky seeing them on exhibit but still really neat. I absolutely love the idea, I think the dolls are fabulous.
