You want some fashion die-hards, I'll give you some. A friend of mine who works in the fashion department at the NY Post started assembling her friends for "fashion dinners." It is what it sounds like. She picks a designer — the first "dinner" was Chanel — and the lassies dress inspired by the designer and meet for a fabulous meal. When she shared this brilliant idea with me, I said she had to take pictures of the next one. And who was the next designer muse?!
Christian Lacroix was the name of the game, and Lady Mendl's Tea Salon at the Inn at Irving Place was the place. As you can see, my girls did it up in pink, florals, lace, vintage-inspiration, headpieces, and frilly fun. Who was your favorite Lacroix lady? I can't choose, they are all fabulously festive. From Lacroix's Fall Couture collection to NYC party girls, the French couturier's joy lives. Stay tuned for the next fashion dinner!

holy cow, how amazing, how fabulous!
1lol, must be nice to have such expendable income.
2Great Sommelier, I believe, and correct me if I'm wrong Fab, but these events are usually inspired by a designer. So where some pieces may actually be from, in this case, Monsieur Lacroix, most of the time it's simply items of clothing from any label that fit with the overall theme of the designer.
Fab, you should try a Chanel party!! Black and white, lace, tulle and pearls. Black Kohl rimmed eyes and straight hair... tres chic.
3Ah, that makes much more sense! thank you!
4Yes, what a fabulous idea and yes, I believe the operative word is "inspired" by a designer.
5All those outfits are absolutely gorgeous, love it
6This is such a darling idea! I'm trying to organize a party like this with my friends, but movie-themed.
7I love this idea! But none of my friends are as into fashion as I am, so I don't see them getting into this
8What a dream! If only I had the money....mine would be more like a Target party
9September, I don't think it would be too hard to do on a budget, I can easily see how you could find cute 80s or early 90s cocktail and/or teadresses with the right prints to do LaCroix or Laura Ashley or even Azzedine Alaia and his borderline-unwearable stretch dresses.
For Chanel you could grab a cute black Target jacket and a quilted purse knockoff, layer it with discount or charity shop faux pearls..
For Christian Dior "vintage new look" look for fun, take the same inexpensive jacket, belt it over a full skirt or hunt for a oldschool tea-length prom or debutante gown and pair it with pumps, button style charity shop earrings, and styled up hair.
For Vivienne Westwood or Betsey Johnson everyone could punk out a bit a la 1980s.
It doesn't take much money, just a lot of imagination, a little while on Google hunting for images and reading up on them, and a Saturday afternoon scouring charity shops.
To save even more cash, instead of having it at a restaurant, you could have everyone bring a dish or drink representative of the times and try to recreate the whole feeling of that fashion era in full.
This would be so fun.
10fun idea! none of my friends are really into fashion either though. but show us pics of the next party so we can live vicariously!
11omgee!! This is idea is so absolutely fabulous! I really need to try this with my friends.
