Yves Saint Laurent's jersey bustier dress, worn here on the runway by Olga Sherer, is surely the hit of the season. Everyone from Julianne Moore to Gwyneth Paltrow has worn it to red carpet events. I would love to be a part of the YSL-wearing clan, but my paycheck isn't suited for that type of mega-spending. I'm pretty sure you're on the same page.

How much more similar can a dress get? If this Spiegel Strapless Tulip Dress ($89) came in gray, it would be YSL's identical twin. It would make a great YSL-inspired LBD, no? For that price, I hope I'm eliciting a gaggle of nods.

beautiful dress!!
1Gorgeous!
2Wow, love them both!!
3good look for less... Yay fab!
4that colour is so lovely
5i like the purple one better! so cute!
6Great choice fab. I actually like the purple color on the Spiegel dress better. I think purple is coming up a lot for this Fall. Plus I think the shape of the Spiegel dress is more tolerant as well to the tummy of non-model.
7I think the YSL dress would be even prettier if it was on a model and not a skeleton
8the ysl isn't half as striking as the spiegel, IMO, and the price is ridiculous for such a simple silhouette. I know quality will be different because it's YSL, but still.
9I LOVE the purple!
10wow, i love the speigel dress - the color is to die for!
11longhornlass04 - you got that right! Sheesh, feed that girl!
12Too bad Spiegel's already out of the plum color in my size.
13I actually like the Speigel dress more...I like the way its pleated at the waist.
By the way, anyone else find it humorously ironic that its made of jersey, and is an evening dress, when just the other night on Project Runway someone was whining about getting jersey fabric from their model for HER evening dress?
14And I agree on the comment above about the model..the more I stare at her chest and shoulders, the more uncomfortable it is...I hate when I see all those horizontal bones above the breast line....too thin, too thin for my taste, anyway!
15These dresses are perfect. I wonder if the Spiegel version would be flattering from a side view. I may just order it.
16ewww that model needs to EAT she looks ill
17Good point, sldc, I wonder if the Spiegel dress would look too "poufy" in front, viewed from the side.
Those pleats could work against someone's shape... the dress would have to be the right fit, for sure, and not at all too tight.
18great color. I think I like it better than the expensive one!!!
19Its a beautiful dress but its a shame that picture got posted. For all the bad rap the fashion industry has gotten about setting bad examples, it sure doesn't seem to care if its reinforcing the idea. Olga Sherer just looks bad. Forget aesthetics, she just looks unhealthy.
20rihanna has a same one at Cosmopolitan party!!! take a look! http://www.nitrolicious.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/rihanna_ysl_...
21The picture is depressing. What's the point of a bustier dress if you have no bust and it's falling off.
very unattractive.
