The Queen's guards have become quite the landmark in London. Who can miss those bright red uniforms and huge furry hats? They might look striking, but did you know that one bear has to be killed for each of their hats to be made? Tear. Vivienne Westwood and Stella McCartney to the rescue! Rumor has is that the two designers, in conjunction with PETA, will design cruelty-free guards uniforms for the Queen.

I wonder what lovely designs Vivienne, famous for her avant garde aesthetic, and Stella, known for using animal-free materials, will come up with. All they need is the approval from the Ministry of Defence, so let's cross our fingers.

Wonderbra
Karen Walker
Quai D'Orsay
It will be *very* interesting to see what they do come up with.
1A whole bear for one hat??? That's nonsense, I don't like that.
2I'm with wadewifey, that's a whole lot of fur. Especially when there's so many synthetic options out, and since I don't think they let tourists just run up and muss at their hats, who would know?
3Yay for Stella McCartney and Vivienne Westwood!!
4Wow I had no idea. I can't believe they haven't started using an alternative material.
5One bear for one hat? Goodness.
6Hurray for people like Stella and Vivienne, I hope their plans will push through. Do let us know FabSugar.
Can't they reuse them as well? I mean, bear fur can't be that fragile.
I don't like the idea of changing the style though.
7very cool...
8love stella, so great she is making a difference. save the bears!!!
