2010 New York Fashion's Night Out Events

Where Will Karl Lagerfeld, Naomi Campbell, Alexander Wang, and More Be For Fashion's Night Out 2010?

>> Fashion's Night Out is back with even more bang in its second year: in addition to a CBS special documenting the occasion, the official directory for the event — scheduled Sept. 10, from 6-11 pm —boasts almost 1,000 events, including a public fashion show for the first time ever.  Check out some of the highlights, below.

1. Karl Lagerfeld Will Be In Town

He's hosting a Chanel dinner the night before Fashion's Night Out, and accepting a Fashion Visionary Award (from the Couture Council of The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology) at a luncheon the day of, so he's definitely in New York for the occasion. Word is he'll be at Chanel's Soho store — where they're also offering complimentary manicures and selling the forthcoming Les Khakis de Chanel nail polish collection for one night. Alternatively, the 57th Street Chanel boutique is offering visitors the option to color-customize their very own pair of iconic Chanel ballet flats.

2. The Block Party Is Back

Last year Opening Ceremony did the block party honors, complete with vintage cars turned into sidewalk shops, and this year Rag & Bone and Phillip Lim are partnering for their own version outside their Mercer Street stores. My Gold Mask is expected to perform, and there will be "food trucks from BLT Burger and Van Leeuwen ice cream serving complimentary treats and a DJ playing music outside," according to David Neville and Marcus Wainwright.

3. One-of-a-Kind Exclusives Will Be Out in Full Force

  • Opening Ceremony is taking over the Ace Hotel lobby and turning it into a French flea market scene modeled in part after the Les Puces de Saint Ouen in Paris. Expect booths featuring exclusive items from Alexander Wang, Band of Outsiders, Deyrolle, Joseph Altuzarra, Keds, Laduree, Proenza Schouler, and Rodarte — and don't be surprised to see the designers shopkeeping.

  • Alexander Wang, Thakoon Panichgul, Proenza Schouler's Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, Peter Som, Jason Wu, and Elise Overland will be on hand at Kirna Zabete, where they each designed something special for the occasion. Scoop up mini PS1 wallets from Proenza Schouler, wave-print tops and tap pants by Thakoon, cocktail napkins from Peter Som, owl-print scarves by Jason Wu, and tunics from Overland.

  • Vena Cava's Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock, meanwhile, are taking their exclusive items to another level. They're hosting a "fashion outsiders" party at Partners and Spade, selling one-of-a-kind items made by non-fashion folk such as police officers, scientists, toddlers, farmer, prisoners, and even Mayock’s dad.

  • Pamela Love, Melissa Akey and Beth Blake of Thread Social, and Stefan Miljanic of Gilded Age are creating a collection of one-of-a-kind custom vintage pieces for What Goes Around Comes Around.

  • Philip Crangi and the Costello Tagliapietra are set to shuck oysters and sell limited-edition aprons and glass-beaded African necklaces at The Crangi Family Project.

4. Modelizers Can Get Their Fix

Models are guaranteed to be out and about: shoppers at Giorgio Armani on Madison can hear Lauren Hutton swap stories with Joan Juliet Buck, while Bar Refaeli will be on hand for photo ops at Armani on 5th Avenue. Naomi Campbell is set to sign limited-edition tees at Dolce & Gabbana, and partygoers at Balenciaga's flagship in Chelsea can listen to Karen Elson rock out at 9 pm with her band (and simultaneously check out the US debut of Balenciaga's “Cindy Sherman: Untitled (Balenciaga) Series,” featuring pieces on loan from François Pinault's personal collection which portray the artist inhabiting various fashion-world fixtures in Balenciaga).

5. See Designers Get Goofy

  • It's games night at Barneys: Simon Doonan, Jack McCollough, Lazaro Hernandez, and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen — who will also host their own Elizabeth and James pop-up shop in the West Village — are judging a karoake contest on the fifth floor, while up the hall Rag & Bone's David Neville and Marcus Wainwright go head-to-head in ping pong. Also on the roster are: drumming, musical chairs, runway lessons from Alexander Wang, salsa lessons from Juan Carlos Obando, a special performance from Rodarte, Daphne Guinness signing her perfume in the basement, plus appearances by Narciso Rodriguez, Isabel Toledo, and Thom Browne.

  • Bergdorf Goodman is bringing together dogs and their designer owners for a Best in Show runway event — Georgina Chapman, Thakoon Panichgul, Keren Craig, Lela Rose will all be there with their pups for the parade. The retailer also has Hamish Bowles judging a makeup artist competition, and Tom Ford, Victoria Beckham, Jason Wu, Brian Atwood, and Thom Browne making appearances.

6. And Then There's the Music

Shake your booty while you shop and join Andre Leon Talley at Ralph Lauren in Soho for a performance by Janelle Monae, or hop over to Helmut Lang's outdoor dance party and check out Harley Viera-Newton and Cassie Coane DJing on the ones and twos.
