New York Fashion Week, Spring 2009: The New Pant
The item of clothing to put under the microscope from
the Spring New York collections is the pants. Pant play has been creeping up on us — from Louis Vuitton's cropped and tailored trousers to Nina Ricci's silky pajama pants — but no item of clothing was rejiggered more than the pant. While Harem pants and slinky trousers have dramatic flair and seem to float down the runway, the real life wear is questionable. Case in point: Ralph Lauren's gold beaded pants. They are beautiful, no doubt, but would you wear these? I love sparkle and shine, and pants, so maybe I just need to warm up to the new notion.

Um NO! The material is gorgeous, but are people seriously trying to bring back MC Hammer pants?! Come on!
1I like the fabric and I like the shine, but not that pant style. I think I prefer the Nina Ricci pants from the previous Fall collection.
2Nope. I'm not much on anything voluminous pants-wise.
3I just got back from Spain. All of the girls are wearing genie pants. Its a huge trend there they come in every fabric and style. I kind of wanted to get a pair, but knew the second I wore them in the states someone would make an MC hammer comment...
4Are we really trying to make a regretful trend ie MC Hammer pants come back into style? Yikes!
5I don't know. I spent three weeks in Buenos Aires this summer and harem pants were everywhere.
6I totally think of MC Hammer when I see these!! They just seem like the kind of pant you buy and only wear a few times before its out of style again. My advice would be if you want to wear these, buy them at an affordable price like from H&M or Mango. Maybe it is a Spanish inspired trend, but it is not all over Europe- no one is wearing them in the UK or Ireland.
7I thought they were ugly and make your legs look like fat, fat chicken legs at first, but then I got a pair when I was in India and they are surprisingly useful for not trailing in the muck while you use squat toilets (and also staying out of the muck in general). They don't ride up your crotch or restrict your movements, and they look cute paired with a craftan.
So yay for MC Hammer pants, I say! Except I have the feeling people are going to look at you funny if you wear them in places where they are not in style, so I haven't had the guts to wear them out and about back at home yet. Hee.
8I kinda like the look in the picture. Glamourous Indiana Jones. Heehee.
9She kinda looks like Fergie here...
10I like them!
11I'm really not a huge fan of these pants. I think if I wasn't in the generation that really truly remembers MC Hammer it would be a different story. So...no thank you.
