I have a diploma in fashion design, and I am getting my degree in fashion marketing in 2 months. I'll be off to study MA in fashion marketing next year. However, I don't feel that I must get
a job in fashion industry. I have done a numerous internships in non-fashion related industries, and although it is easier for me to work in fashion, there are so many different types of jobs
and industries nowadays where I can use the skills I learned in school.
Nonetheless, I do occasionally enjoy going fabric shopping to make myself a skirt or two, and everyday, I look and hear fashion incessantly. But, after 3 years of studying fashion, I realized
marketing is my true passion. Anyone can be fashion forward never mind which industry they work in,
Well, I used to work in the marketing department of a large national chain of women's stores. But it was awful - a cheap, tacky, unfashionable chain with horrible people in the corporate
office. It was very cliquey and I hated working there.
I guess I could technically say that I still work in fashion because now I consider my fashion blog a part-time job. But maybe that's a stretch.
I am a graphic designer on a magazine publisher company. And every now and then, when time permits, I do an article about fashion in one of our magazines.

i worked for an accessory designer for my internship and then she hired me to do a lot of her graphics and promotional flyers. I cut fabrics for her bags. I loved working there, very laid
back. Now i work for a retail headquarters and there's many opportunity in fashion area to move up in.

I used to be an indie designer back in the 80's through the early 90's. But I got tired of getting ripped off by major designers (their "pickers" would buy my stuff, then it'd be in the
designers next collection UGH!) I got plenty of recognition, but it came down to either finding a backer and going big or moving on. The prospect of answering to someone was not appealing so
I moved on to vintage clothing, owned a brick and mortar shop in NYC for 10 years until the post 9/11 economy finally killed us. I'm also a published author and freelance writer, and often
write about fashion and beauty (LOADS of ghost writing -- yes kids, practically no one writes their own book.)
Totally couldn't do it. I have belly pudge and I love mozzarella cheese. Working in that industry would vilify me for those reasons alone, to say nothing of my tendency to wear jeans every.
day. and my complete inability to walk gracefully in anything with more than a 2" heel.
I'll stick to futzing with my little viral colonies. Hey, someone's gotta cure AIDS.

coffeeteawrecks I have an almost 9 yr old fashion queen, would your mag be appropriate? If so, what is it? She loves my fashion mags but it would be great for her to have something age
appropriate.
I've worked for all the big name's like Marc Jacobs, Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, etc for many years as a personal shopper and Showroom assistant. I decided to take a break from it all and I'm
now working with Children which I love. I still shop like crazy and travel the world but as we can all see with today's economic mess Fashion is being put on a rest. The exciting thing is
that maybe some cool under ground culture will emerge. For Example Voguing .. Came from Harlem during the depression and was made again popular in the 80's in NYC by young gay culture and
then brought on the main stream by Madonna.
