Girlshop.com will reportedly close its virtual doors after nearly a decade in business. The shop's literal doors at the store in the Meatpacking District will follow suit on Sunday.

This is sad news for fashionistas who came to love the boutique whose claim to fame was featuring clothing and accessories by small, emerging designers. What set Girlshop.com apart from other online retailers was its magazine-like look, thanks to founder and graphic designer, Laura Eisman.
"When we launched, the reason we were successful was, we offered unique products and we started this trend for emerging fashion," says Eisman. "Now that it's everywhere, it's made us less unique.
New Yorkers can take advantage of the liquidation sale from Thursday through Sunday at the Meatpacking District store at 819 Washington Street near Gansevoort Street.

Aw, that's sad. I love the stuff they sell. Not like I ever bought anything, though.
While I loved the merch, the site itself was complicated and not very user friendly. Still, this is crappy news.
1I was wondering why their selection had gone down so much. I'm sad to see them go!

2Wow, I can't believe that! I'm surprised it doesn't say anything on their site about it.
3I know, MallRat. If you visit their site, there is no indication of them closing down. I think they stopped taking order 2 or so weeks ago.
4What a bummer. I shop there all of the time. In fact, last week I just bought the cutest sweatshirt jacket there. Boo (: Thanks for this little tid bit Fab.
5That's a shame - they were one of the first online stores I ever visited or shopped!
6So sad!
7This is HORRIBLE!!! I've bought like 20 things from them online and I was wondering why the selection was going down, I'm sad now.
8Wow. I am shocked to hear this. What a bummer. It was one of the first cool places to shop online but I can't remember the last time I checked it out.

11slowly but surely they will take them away
Wow.. that sucks! They have been having a lot of sales lately...
12I used to like to look but I never bought. Hmmm... well, I doubt anyone will stay sad for too long cuz there's always something new to check out on the web. It's just the nature of the beast!
13So sad! I love Girlshop
14Some of my first web purchases were from Girlshop, but I agree with what they are saying about it not being so unique anymore. There are so many sites that feature emerging designers now. Many that are much easier to navigate than Girlshop.
Still sad news ~ Peace the spork out Girlshop
15That's really too bad. I'm bummed.
16That's really too sad.
