This striking Pharaoh was one of the most important figures in Egypt's history. Using her wits and ravishing looks, Cleopatra claimed power and victory across the lands. Her story of power and love was so powerful it prompted directors to portray her story in numerous Hollywood movies; Joseph L. Mankiewicz's rendition starring Elizabeth Taylor was my favorite. Achieving her look is sexy and easy. All you need is a simple long jersey dress (in black or white), tons of gold accessories and serious makeup. Hold your head high and walk like an Egyptian . . .

I LOVE the snake earrings and the bracelet. I think I'm gonna have to buy them!
1I think this is a fabulous (and EASY!) idea...
2i did this last year and my boyfriend went as Mark Antony. Then our dog went as a roman soldier! it was SO cute
3lol I really really hate how Hollywood portrays Cleopatra as a white woman, it's offensive.
4I actually was thinking about dressing up like her for Halloween this year hmm.
I kind of think this costume is way overdone--I see so many girls dressed up like Cleopatra each year.
5aniya, I'm with you on that.
i am going as cleopatra at studio 54, so i can wear my gold hot pants/heels combo and all the gold accessories i want.
6I've dressed up as Cleopatra on a previous Halloween. It was a lot of fun. (Although I'm 'white'...I wonder if I offended someone with my costume? Please.)
7I was almost was Cleopatra this year, but I couldn't find any authentic costumes in my price range.
8Just thought I'd point out that Cleopatra was more of Macedonian heritage than Egyptian. So she actually probably looked more Greek than egyptian or african.
9yay! i am so happy to see this and bella sugar's makeup tips
. i've been planning for
the past two months to be cleo for halloween!
10why would you be offended that they portray Cleopatra as "white" - it's not like they do that because they hate all other races, they do it because they want a certain actress and they don't care whether or not she has the right skin color - I could understand if you think it's dumb and not very realistic, as I do when they portray Greeks or Romans with British accents (they're Italian and Greek! they would have darker skin and have Italian/Spanish-sounding accents!) but offended? that's seems a bit much...
11growing up there were a lot of people who felt that this was one of the best costumes, and i guess that wearing a toga of sorts is a pretty inexpensive thing to do.
12Hi Aniya - Cleopatra WAS a white woman. Her father was the Greek Ptolemy XII. She immersed herself into the Egyptian culture and is therefore is often thought of as Egyptian since she dressed as the Egyptians did and spoke their language.
13Actually Cleopatra was of mixed heritages Greek, Egyptian, and African. She was immersed in the Egyptian culture, because of her royal family lineage, but she was the original mut.
14To be honest - I spent most of September in Italy, and Italian's don't generally have tanned skin unless they spend alot of their time in the sun or at the beach. I'm from Scotland and I had darker skin than they did when I got to Italy. It just depends on their pigmentation and how suseptible they are to the rays...
15Its amazing how people can trun even a simple comment into race and then go on debating heritages and what complexion people from certain countries have. Why not just accept someone's comment as their point of view insteed to trying to correct and prove yourself more knowledgeable and right all the time
