Wasn't there a point in time when people didn't think black and blue went together? Seeing as how the most common colors associated with a bruise are "black and blue" I don't really understand how people thought these colors didn't complement each other. Together, they create a dark mystique that oozes cool and collected. I have spotted this color combo on several starlets as of late and I'm totally into it. These three looks in particular are all very different, but all work, proving that black and blue is pretty versatile. Blast those naysayers who said it couldn't work!
The common denominator in two of these looks is layers. All three decided to go with noir shoes - probably the best way to work it. As well, the blue is more navy and moody; although bright blue works and sequins do too! This trend will take you into the Fall and beyond - but kbella already knows this!

Oh Good! I've got this Navy Blue Tunic that I had no clue what to wear with it.
1I wore a black and blue dress last weekend to a party, paired it with a pair of chocolate brown pumps to add a little spice, I think it looked pretty cute!
2Love it!
Question: I have this same dress as Team Sugar: http://teamsugar.com/look/199344
What color shoes can I wear with it?? Is this the time black does NOT go with it?
Thanks!
3Hi LuciLu! Because your dress is blue and white I would go with a nautical black shoe; like these black espardilles:

And wear a black cardi to pull the look together. xo
4Thanks Fab! Youre a genius!
5I was at the mall about a month ago and I noticed at a lot of stores were into the black and blue combo
6I love Jamie Lynn's dress. I can't wait to get into black and blue. When navy blue is done right, it's just so clean and classy.
7love this color, I have to buy a dress for an event and I think I will look for one with that has this color
8I love it!
9Hahha. This is too funny! I am sitting here right now in a black and blue outfit. I love this trend.
10I heart Reese's look!
Return the shoes? I can't talk to you when you're hysterical.
11I love Navy, it's so classy! It's one of my absolute favorite colors!
12I love Reese's look. Cute, classy, and wearable.
13Actually very true, I too remember they were a no-no. But looking at these pictures, the colours are really wittily put together. Thanks for the tip, must look for some dark blue shoes next...
14Love the shoes and the cardie, not a big fan of the dress though...
15I love Jamie Lynn's outfit. Where can I find it?
16...i guess i'd have to check it out on me. i'm not sure i'm sold on the idea that black and navy go together. i've always gone with gray or muted brown. it looks ok here...
17I remember that old fashion rule! My older sister used to chide me for wearing the two together but I think it looks great when done correctly. Out of the three celebrities picture, Reese pulls it off the best.
18I've always liked pairing black with blue. But I think it should be saved for the winter. Right now I am pairing other colors, like cool dark brown with dove gray, and it looks so fresh! I never follow "rules" and just do what appeals to me. After-all, how you dress should be a reflection of your personality.
19I wear black and blue together all the time...don't get that old fashion rule!
20I never got people saying to not wear navy and black together!! They look awesome! And here's proof!
21Navy and black are two of my favorite colors...I'm so excited that they're in style!
22I love that cardigan!
23i absolutely ADORE this trend!!!
24mix in a bit of white and there's my fav spring color palette!
I never understood why people said black and blue didn't go together...I wore it anyway - trendsetter!!
25i love what reese is wearing!!
26i still will not wear true navy with black - the navy that is so dark it is often worn with black on accident. i love midnight with black though.
i think this old rule is much more like "black and brown don't go together" - when the brown is also very dark. midnight blue and camel/tan brown look great with black because there is enough contrast.
