I am not a huge fan of patchwork on clothing. It just reminds me too much of wearing a quilt - no offense to quilts! I am, however, a fan of maxi dresses, which is why I am torn about this J.Crew Talitha Patchwork Dress, $500, brought to my attention by SaraSmile. I love the strong silhouette of the dress but I can do without the lengthy pattern. Still, I am undecided. What about you gals?

So Bin Ich
I think this would make an awesome mini dress but as a maxi it is too much.
i saw this and a couple of the other maxi-dresses at J.Crew this weekend and i think all of them would be a lot cuter if they were calf-length or shorter. everyone that tried them on looked like they were wearing tents.
I agree, it would be cute if it were shorter. There's too much going on with the patterns, it's starting to give me a headache.
You would have to keep everything else bare. No jewelry, no fancy hair and simple simple plain shoes. The dress cries out for so much attention - anything else to add to it would just be overboard.
p.s - I would love to see this version toned down a little - maybe a less fullier skirt.
I agree with the others who say this would look better as a mini or calf-length
ah i love love love this dress. it's gorgeous and the simple styling in the photo is divine. unfortunately i think you'd have to be on the taller side to pull of the maxi AND the pattern. fortunately they make them in simpler patterns as well (though i love the sort of madras effect patchwork) and i'm 5'3 and plan on finding one! rah for maxi dresses! With some lovely embellished flat sandals. perfect.
i think if it was shorter it would be cuter. looks too heavy.
Love it. Want it.
I'm not liking it.
wow! It's like hippie meets ball-gown. I think I'd only wear it if it were just one color or shorter. I'm sure some gals could pull it off, though.
$500? Seriously?
they have this same print in a top. i could do without the dress however i can't wait to purchase the top which looks identical to the dress except it is obviously shorter.
I love it, It's so fun.
Normally I love everything J.Crew, but I am not feeling this at all...
Definitely way too much pattern for a maxi. I have a feeling there is going to be a lot left over for a sale catalog.
I like it...
yeah, short would have been cute, too hippie chick as is.
Only for a tall and very young girl.
I like this shorter version better Playa tank dress .
This is a LOT of dress. I can't imagine this working IRL.
I agree with most everyone else. It's just too long, but it would be SO CUTE as a mini.
No, way too much fabric.
actually there is something I like about the dress, it's little to much maybe as a mini dress it would much nicer
sorry for the errors and the missing words, I'm soooooo tired
)
I love the pattern, but I agree, it's just too much for a dress cut like this. Make it shorter, or less full, and it'd be great.
It is a lot of dress though. I love the fit of the bodice but the skirt is just so long and full, made more so by the pattern. However, on the right person, this could look amazing. Look how it fits that model! Gorgeous.
definitely should be shorter and at least half the price. yikes!
Who could wear this without looking ridiculous? Maybe a model... other than that, no way. This isn't a dress for real life.
This is just too busy for anything but models. Real women could never pull it off.
I agree with a lot of the others- its just too much long and overwhelming...anyone got a pair of scissors? i used to have a quilt similar to that on my bed and im having flashbacks- way too much fabric.
I agree it definitely needs to be shorter, though at this length it would get someone a lot of attention!
i think it's cute but it would be wearable if it were shorter, like a mini-dress. and belted! or chain straps! ow ow!
Besides having waaay too much going on, only someone with the bust of a 12 year old boy could wear that dress. So tired of clothes with no room for boobs.
Wayyyy too busy for my taste - plus I'm only 4'11, I'd look ridiculous!
Return the shoes? I can't talk to you when you're hysterical.
I think its great. Normally, I have to squeeze my large rear into something to make it look smaller ... now with this the skinny girls can look bigger and I don't have to worry about the control top
I saw a simliar dress on a girl at a Phish concert - and she made it herself. Not very original. That was probably one of the few places you could wear it. They're a few years too late on this one.
If this was shorter, it'd be cute. It's just too overpowering as a maxi dress.
I LOVE! WHERE CAN I GET A CHEAPER VERSION!!!!
Very cute on a super thin person. Anyone with curves will look preggers.

I love free pattern items but I think this has a little too much going on.
Tooooo bubbly!
Hate It tooo much colors
I love love love this dress! I first saw it in a J Crew catalog and was stunned because I used to make dresses like this--more than 4 years ago. The price is what it costs to make a dress of that nature...lots of seams and accuracy in sewing techniques. I don't think they made a log of these dresses either. The Playa dress they made was similar and came in a short length. I love dresses like this, they make me feel like a princess, but yeah, you definitely get a lot of looks of wonderment.
I actually luv this!
yes, it would be a little hard to pull off bcuz of the length, but I think the solid blue top hem and empire belt cut off the business of the pattern - I want this dress!
i like it alot. shorter would be hotter for sure. and one colour maybe?
