UPDATE: Sources have confirmed that Michelle Obama will appear on the cover of Vogue magazine. Photographer Annie Leibovitz was reportedly spotted leaving the Hay-Adams Hotel, the place where the Obamas stayed before moving into the White House. We're suspecting Michelle will appear in Vogue's hefty March issue . . .
She's not even first lady yet, but Michelle Obama is in high demand. Vogue, who's shown no modesty in their support for Obama, wants to feature Michelle on its front cover. If Michelle accepts, she will be the second first lady to ever grace the cover of its magazine.
“Starting with Eleanor Roosevelt, it’s been a long-standing tradition to photograph the new first lady. So needless to say, we are very interested in working with Mrs. Obama. Precisely how is still being discussed,” said a Vogue spokesman.
The fashionable first lady, seen left in Narciso Rodriguez's red and black confection, would potentially be following in the footsteps of former First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, who appeared on the December 1998 issue.

I hate to be terrible but,
1I want to be First lady and get the straight off the spring runway dresses!
2She needs to hire a stylist - FAST!
3I don't like it on Michelle. It looks better on the model, but I still don't like it. I think Michelle looks better in J. Crew and White House/Black Market. It seems like the clothes are better suited to her body type.
4Kim! Thanks for saying so politely and concisely what's been in my head this whole time! It's so true.
BTW, it's hard to compete Irina.
5compete with Irina.
6Ugh. I'm sorry but she is NO Jackie O. Just because you (the general you) like someone does not mean they are a style icon.
7That dress she wore was f**ked up...I dont care if it is Narciso Rodriguez... that dress was ugly... But I am so happy for her husband and her family!!
8I would like to see her on the cover. Shes the most fashionable First Lady we have had in a while. Shes still young and can play with her style before she becomes relegated to skirt suits. I hated the Narciso Rodriguez dress but she been much more good than bad.
I hope she chooses Tracey Reese or Ralph Lauren for her inauguration gown.
9The way she is holding her hand makes it look like she wasnt very comfortable in it. Maybe it was a last minute, in a pinch, choice...
10I'm sorry but that is not a pretty dress. It looks like a bondage outfit. Good for some occasions but not that one.
11Shes not a style icon but since shes going to be in the public eye now more than ever, she needs to look her best at all times. and I agree she needs a stylist or someone to let her know what looks good on her.
12I hated the dress on her. Hope she gets a good stylist.
13Her style is non existent and shes ugly with a nice figure, but whatever
14give her a break - she's a mother of two, a lawyer, a wife of a politician...not a friggin runway model
15she doesn't have a model's body, because she's a normal woman
it would be great to see her in vogue, because she's beautiful and natural and above all, she's smart, graceful, elegant, and caring
gabiushka - that was totalllly uncalled for!
oh and you dont have to be a style icon to be in vogue as long as you can pull off the clothing and photographs they fit you with...keira knightley for example, not a style icon, was on the cover of vogue...with bad hair i might mention. she is stylish as far as mother's go, and it's not really fair for younger people to be judging her as unfashionable. plus, i like that dress!
16The dress is O.K. If anything I thought the red and black complemented the colors of the dresses her daughters were wearing, as well as her husband's black suit and red tie.
17I think some of the comments were a little harsh, but it is not "unfair" for younger people to be judging Michelle's sense of style. She is a public figure and the way she dresses is fair game as far as being judged. Extending judgments on the way she dresses to judgments about her personality, etc. is unfair.
18And I don't really think anyone is suggesting that she should look like a runway model or have a runway model's body, just that she should dress to suit her body type. She's not a runway model, so things that look good on models aren't necessarily going to look good on her.
19TeamSugar is always so fun to hang out at
20"just that she should dress to suit her body type"
exactly Kim!
21Skitgurl I totally agree with you.
22Love the dress. I thought she looked great. It's refreshing to see someone who doesn't wear the same type of dress but in different colors. I love Oscar de la Renta just as much as anyone else but I think it's awesome to finally see a first lady (or first lady to-be) who branches out and takes risks.
23I've liked her style, but I wasn't a fan of that dress. Maybe because I just don't like the color red, though.
24I think red is a good color for her, but the dress style just didn't do anything for her.
25i think she looked great
26shes always so classy
For someone who does not have a stylist, she has damn good style. She may be no Jackie O style wise but Jackie O was no great looker. I prefer to look at Michelle. She is comfortable in her own skin, she can dress herself just fine.
27WHO CARES ABOUT HER DRESS??!! SHE IS AWESOME AND HER HUSBAND IS AMAZING!!!!
STOP HATING, IT'S QUITE TRANSPARENT.
28"give her a break - she's a mother of two, a lawyer, a wife of a politician...not a friggin runway model
she doesn't have a model's body, because she's a normal woman
it would be great to see her in vogue, because she's beautiful and natural and above all, she's smart, graceful, elegant, and caring"
29It's transparent that because people don't like her dress they hate her? That's a jump!
30ok, the dress doesn't even look that good on th emodel. it does NOTHING for her figure.. she looks so.. boxy... eek.
michelle has earned being on vogue. if nothing else for the fact that she doesn't live in a pant or skirt suit and actually takes the risk and has fun with her fashion - which is what vogue is all about. have you ever seen laura bush wear narciso rodriguez? cause i sure haven't.
31Michelle Obama =
32Michelle Obama = L.O.V.E!!
33since my first comment was deleted.
I dont like the dress its not flattering it looks like someone paintballed it or one of her kids sat in paint than onto her lap.
I dont care what she wears or what rag wants her on the cover.
34I agree, the dress wasn't the greatest but she usually looks very lovely and all on her own. That's pretty awesome to me. She's sophisticated but can be casual and look like the mom from next door. I adore that.
35I agree with rmur...I didn't even get syako's comment at first, because the model doesn't look all that great. I don't think the Narciso Rodriguez was the best, but she still looked classy and occassion appropriate.
36you could pm me and ask me
37I stopped admiring Vogue as a serious fashion magazine a long time ago, when they stopped using models on their covers and started using celebrities. Are there any real fashion magazines left?
38lil, that's when I stopped liking Vogue as well. It's my big beef about the "fashion" magazines I used to worship!
39Same here! I mean, I'll still read, but I feel it's becoming more of a celebrity magazine than a fashion magazine. Even W uses celebrities now! I feel like I get a lot of celebrity coverage and ads with these magazines these days. (I sound like an old woman.)
40I like that she takes some risks - not just the skirt suit repetition. I think the problem with the dress is actually the cardigan. It made it hard to see what was going on.
41Was it a cardigan or was it sleeves and a weird belt?
42The celebrity slant of those magazines bugs me so much. So you're not the only one who gets grumpy about it, lil.
43I think she looks wonderful.
But that is besides the point. She is a great role model. I hope Vogue focuses on her family and her history with U Chicago.
44I miss the days when Shalom Harlow, Amber Valletta, and Kirsty Hume pretty much just took turns posing for the Vogue covers.
45I understand the fascination with her and I'll give her credit for wearing clothing that is usually accessible to the masses. She is young and she dresses hip, so of course Vogue is going to love her. Yes, I think the dress on election night was horrible, but she is amazingly fit and could probably run circles around many, which is something I admire.
46It doesn't matter to me if she's on the cover, but a "we've come a long way" (something like that), historical-take, fashion feature with several first ladies may be interesting. May even be better as a special issue. While this wasn't my favorite look on her, the look came across great on TV. I don't think it will take her long to find her fashionable edge and continue to wow us. She's awesome.
47Would like to see her in Oscar de la Renta or maybe Carolina Herrera for the inauguration
48I think she always looks lovely, but this dress doesn't do her justice. And it's just maybe a little too edgy for an acceptance speech? Oh well, who cares, it's over!
49It was a cradigan and since it was windy that night it kept blowing open making it look strange.
