I recently accompanied my friend on her hunt for the perfect party dress. Not too long after our search we discovered this Banana Republic Silk Maxi Dress in Peacock ($175). It looked good on the hanger but came to life when she slipped it on. Maxis tend to have that breath-taking effect. They make you look long and lean, especially if you wear your tallest heels. If you're in the mood for a long dress this year, take it to the maxi. Shorter gals, don't overlook the maxi; my friend is 5'2" and it made her look heads taller.

they work as long as you dont have hips or a butt
I'm too petite for maxi dresses--they just look overwhelming on me. Not my favortie style anyway.
I hate this trend. Long length is fine for gowns, but not for everyday wear. I don't see hems sweeping the streets as fashion. Love sarah22's comment.
yea, I agree that I don't like casual maxi dresses. I love that yellow Terrani one though, because it looks more elegant and the print is gorgeous...
i love the yellow dress
I'm with emalove.
If it was knee length it would have been much better. It just seems a bit too long. The color however is beautiful.
a house of dereon dress is 400 dollars? For what?
Interesting! I always assumed maxi dresses were out of the question for short people. I am always trying to look longer:)
Love the Banana Republic dress (though I'd have to try it on to make sure it wasn't an awkward clinger) and the convertible ballgown. They just look so comfortable and lovely, and I gotta say, when I'm comfy, I can be that much more sexy.
I love this dress - it is a beautiful colour and super classy.
