Ever since I saw Angelina Jolie in leather pants, I've been wanting a pair of my own. After hours of perusing, I found these Paige Denim Hyde Park Skinny Leather Pants ($595). The straight-leg cut is ideal for my shape and I like the nondescript detailing. Alas, leather is expensive and I can't fathom spending this much on such a trendy piece.

Thank goodness for faux! It's much cheaper and animal-friendly. These Express Faux Leather Pants ($50) are awesome. They have the same cut and simple styling as Paige's without the hefty price tag. Is it just me, or is Express coming back on top? I'm just sayin'.

Funky but not for me...

2This time the cheap version actually LOOKS cheap. The fit is all loose and baggy in the front. Not attractive.
3Yeah you can't fake leather, especially on pants. Splurge or buy them used.
4i totally agree with mondaymoos
5Heh, I agree with mondaymoos about the cheaper version. The crinkle-wrinkles in the pants look awful, like the model is wearing saran-wrap--especially with that excessive shiny-ness--not leather. I'm guessing the pants aren't thick enough. With that cheap look, it takes away the understated cool the more expensive pants feature.
And the cut is NOT the same...the cheaper pants are shorter, above the ankle, like floods, which isn't attractive either and would look weird with some shoes/low boots. The expensive pants look much better, with the longer legs gathering below the ankle.
I'm definitely not saying you should pay almost $600 for black real leather skinny pants, but maybe you should find faux leather pants that are a little more than $50 to get some good looking ones with the simple, sexy coolness you liked in the first place!
Try these for the same length and texture in faux leather, $50 - $60:

...Yes, I am avoiding studying for a final and writing a paper.
6leather = you get what you pay for.
7in my opinion.
I have to say, I don't like either of them. They both look cheap, just might be the pic. I am not much of a leather pants kind of gal anyway. I don't think that I look good in leather pants.
8i work at Express and, while I generally love our clothes and totally stand behind them, when these pants came in, we all died of laughter. They are absolutely hideous on the rack and on bodies. We haven't sold a single pair. Our after holiday box sale starts on the 23rd (I think). If you really want them, I would be willing to bet they'll be on markdown.
Yuck.
9I am ALWAYS up for trying a new style at risk of others thinking its strange even if it might not work out but the way I feel about leather pants is that you must be TRES skinny to wear them and have them look good. I do not mean just normal and thin, I mean you must be that girl that your friends always ask how are you so skinny? Otherwise, please please stay away for the rest of our sake. If you've got that bod though, PLEASE ROCK THEM! I'm into the style itself.
10I did the leather pants thing in HS...never again...in HS I was a size 0 and could pull it off. Now I'm a 4 or a 6 and I'd feel odd in them. Plus I'd probably look like a sofa!
11JaeB, that NYC alternative was great
. I have an old pair of leather pants, but I
could use a cheap update.

14My sister has the Tripp NYC pants, and they look great even though they don't fit her right. She is so petite, they are too big for her!
Some people could rock these, but I just can't see myself in them.
15Cheap is cheap is cheap...
16Actually, Wild Child, in the VS pair's case, Cheap is Hot!
17never rock the faux leather unless it's not shiny. then maybe and i say maybe b/c i saw some girls on fashion blogs wearing a faux leather jacket from either h&m or f21 and it looked good on them. either way it always looks fake. i say go for leather leggings if pants are too expensive.
18I love leather pants but I just can't pull those off. and while those Express pants are awful, I love all their other stuff - and they've had great sales this month. I highly recommend that everyone go check out their great sale which starts tomorrow...
