I remember it like it was yesterday. In March '07, Sarah Jessica Parker announced her partnership with an athletics apparel store. That's when Steve & Barry's entered our stylish lives. I admit, at first I was confused by SJP's choice of distributer for her line, but boy did the retailer deliver. Besides SJP's Bitten, it also hosted Dear by Amanda Bynes, a Sex and the City Movie merchandise line, a Venus Williams sportswear collection, and more. All seemed well in the world of Steve & Barry's until we got hit with devastating news — the retailer filed for bankruptcy protection in July.

To hear more about Steve & Barry's tumultuous year, read more.
An update soon followed: Steve & Barry's officially filed a voluntary Chapter 11 petition in Manhattan bankruptcy court. Bitten, and all the other celebrity clothing lines, would now be homeless. Then, word came in August that Steve & Barry's would survive. Huh? The company had been purchased by investment firm Bay Harbour Management for $168 million. How I wish this story had a happy ending, but in November, Steve & Barry's had its final blow and decided to cut its losses. In the end, the flailing economy forced the retailer to file for its second bankruptcy. We have yet to learn if Bitten will make a new home, but Steve & Barry's, and the idea of fast fashion under $10, will be missed!

Total bummer they had some pretty cute and decent things, cheap!
1My boyfriend will only buy his pants from there and nowhere else. If only I could find a similar priced alternative.
2bitten had the BEST corduroy straight leg pants! i always got compliments on amanda bynes' jewlery. this makes me extremely sad. i fully intend on wearing these things until they are completely unwearable now.
3good riddance!
4I am soo sad to see them go. Bitten makes great dirt cheap jeans!!
5WOW!!!!!!!!!
6how are we suppose to get our Bitten fix????????????????
I'm personally not too upset over this, but I know my husband loved that place for cheap t-shirts and work pants!
7this is so sad. i went there for the first time this year and got a million tshirts and long-sleeved tshirts and sweatshirts for me, my sister, my boyfriend....super cute stuff for like $5 each...just casual for the gym or sleeping shirts for us girls, but for my boyfriend, he wears some of the 'university' shirts and looks amazing in them. so dissapointing!
8The Bitten jeans wear like iron, great every day jeans. I'm gonna have to see if I can get another pair before they're gone! Boo...
9I was so excited about the Bitten line, and my city just happened to open a Steve & Barry's right around that time. But I was really disappointed. First of all, that store smells WEIRD. Or is it just the one I go to? And yeah, it might be nice to buy clothes for that cheap, but most of their stuff was crappy quality, so not really worth it.
10Haha! spharrell : You are right, the store does have a weird smell, they all do!! I am gonna miss the store for their cheap t-shirts and sweatshirts
11There IS a distinct S&B smell. I thought it was just the one in the Racine mall, which is kinda busted to begin with, but then I went into another store and got the same odor. Eh, that's what the washing machine is for.
I liked their stuff, just the same. It was good basic cute clothes for "whatever" days. I am a layering woman, and they were all about tanks, thermals, and cardis in all colors...which is candy to me.
I'll have to see if Mom wants to go down to the one in Schaumburg to see what's left...
12Ugh, I am so sad to see them go! It sucked because the closest one to me was a good 30 minutes away, and I didn't get out there as much as I would have liked.
13Uqh.
