Fab Ad: Katie Holmes, Miu Miu Spring '09

The model's been prepped and the photo's been snapped — meet the face of Miu Miu Spring '09: Katie Holmes. This pairing came as a bit of a surprise to us, and we can now properly judge.

Katie's strong bone structure always photographs well and the sepia tone of the ad delivers a cool, vintage feel. Shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, the ads were inspired by Italian director Fellini, and hoped Katie would appear to be a "luminous icon radiating a sense of mystery and theatricality." What do you think? Would you call this luminous?

i LOVE LOVE LOVE this ad. i love the dress, and i love how katie looks in it. (can you tell that i'm both a huge fan of miu miu as well as hers?)

I wonder if Victoria Beckham sleeps with one eye open, because Katie Holmes has got a serious "Single White Female" thing going on with her. *shudders*

Unfortunately, Katie comes off a little more tranny that Posh.

Still not getting the pairing of this person to this campaign. Never will. That description of their image ideal only makes me more confused. Katie Holmes' "street style" always seems so forced to me, like she's dressing for the paparazzi waiting outside her door, and I get the same feeling from this. It's not her, and she doesn't look natural or comfortable--just stiff and forced.

Yikes! This is just not for me.

The photo makes her look unnecessarily harsh, in my opinion. Miu Miu is just not a brand I could ever associate with Katie Holmes, especially when her everyday attire leans a little too far to the drab and 'matronly' for my taste. This peek at the campaign has not changed my opinion.

I love it! I feel that Katie has a natural knack for modeling, and I LOVE Fellini and can definitely see the inspiration here. MUCH MUCH MUCH better than Lindsay Lohan's ads.

haha, this ad is hilarious. it looks like something from SNL! seriously, they actually though Katie Holmes could pull off dangerous and seductive?! I like Katie Holmes fine, and I think she could have been really good, but I figured they would go for a more sweet but sexy look, which she can totally do (see The Singing Detective or her scene from that show Eli Stone). that would have been much better, and I think it works better for Miu Miu (it worked when Kirsten Dunst modeled for the brand). I just don't like anything about it - the whole scene is boring and unoriginal, the pose is second-rate, the styling is just plain ugly, and she looks crazt (or like she's trying to act crazy)...

personally, i really don't have an opinion regarding katie holmes so i was willing to wait and see when i heard she was doing this. however, now that i've seen it, i don't think she's a right fit for this campaign. bone structure duly noted, i just don't think she has the chops nor the edge to pull of something of this caliber, sorry.
