What McQ, Alexander McQueen's diffusion line, decided to do with their Spring/Summer ad campaign is really unique. Instead of going the usual photographer/stylist route they scouted MySpace for creative profile pages. They then reached out to those peeps, usually art, photography and fashion students, to design ads for their new campaign. They liked the fresh talent's unaltered and visionary ideas that ended up on billboards in hip areas of London and NYC and in magazines across Europe - and now on FabSugar!

They tapped into the fact that youth culture has always changed fashion, from punks to ravers. London youth culture and street style is booming right now and emerging designers like Christopher Kane have their finger on the pulse. If you look at these ads, they do have a unique look to them and how cool is it to have a McQ ad in your portfolio at the tender age of 18?

I'm so impressed!!!
That's really cool and great!
What a brilliant idea. Such an amazing opportunity for those selected.
from a graphic design/marketing standpoint, these are terrible. yes they look cool, but the type treatment completely overwhelms everything else and detracts from the clothing and photograhy. last time i checked, alexander mcq is not looking to sell fonts.
The clothes are nice but the ads, not so much. You can barely see anything other than the font.
Great Idea!
I just love Alexander McQueen - He's my absolute favorite favorite designer. Everything he does; from his clothes, to his runway shows, to his print ads are on the cutting edge of creativity.
I think It's a great idea and so original!!!
I think its a great idea, but feel kind of bad for the people who actually want jobs in that field. At least McQ got off cheap.
brilliant idea! but not so sure about the ad design...it's ok, just so so for me
I think that the ad design is brilliant. Considering who he had design the ads: Beautiful artsy kids he found on MySpace- having the huge icon as an overlay is absolutely perfect.
A great way to find undiscovered talents and for these ppl to have a chance at making it
i think it's great that he's giving a chance to do what they love... for a big designer to do that, it made me like him even more as a person and a designer
I read in the Fashion Rocks magazine that punks inspired McQueen and it is good that he looks to the streets and other contemporary sources for inspiration. Long live McQueen!
Ditto Krampalicious!! The idea of finding (cheap) students/holding a contest is not original, and even if the students had talent, that McQ covers it all up. That scenario (Pepsi, Explorer or was it Tahoe...) rarely excites me. I liken it to getting a haircut at barber college.
