We've closely followed the issue of model diversity for some time now, and judging from New York Fashion Week, designers are showing an effort to include more ethnic models this season. Some credit this change to our new president and to First Lady Michelle Obama's overwhelming popularity. “There’s a residue left over from the excitement of the inauguration. People just want to bring that sort of optimism or element of change on the runways," said Elle’s creative director, Joe Zee.

However, industry experts say although some progress has been made, much more has to be done. “I’ve seen a more consistent use of black models,” said model Veronica Webb. "I still don’t see more of different kinds of faces, but we’re getting there.” Whatever the reason, we're happy to see strides in the right direction and look forward to seeing an even wider variety of beautiful models in the future.

Great news!
1Love the purple dress and the magenta coat, anyone know what designer that is?
2Found it and if anyone's interested, it's Oscar de La Renta
3well i think that designers and PR companies are realizing that it's a good thing to have different types of models walk the runways since it gives people a real sense of how the clothes look on different ethnic groups. i feel like it's a good change and i hope that we see more. true to what VW said, we have been seeing a lot more diversity lately, and we can only hope that this keeps happening.
4I'm glad to see a noticeable amount of diversity on the runways this season. But like Veronica said, as usual there's still a ways to go. But, that is Sessilee Lopez, not Ubah Hassan in the picture. =) They're both fierce though.
