Ruching
(Also spelled rouching) n. A French word which means to plait. It is a very ancient sewing technique. A strip of fabric or ribbon is gathered in a repeat pattern and as the gathering thread is drawn up the strip forms scallops or petals. Throughout history ruching has been an embellishment or trim on women's clothing often seen on a neckline, sleeve, hem or bonnet.

That top is by Elijah, not Norma Kamali.
1isn't it "rouching" ?
2Or "ruchés"?
3Thanks, SarahwithanH, you're right - I just fixed it! Good catch!
mtx, I believe it can be spelled either way!
xo
4I like it, but why oh why is everything so expensive nowadays? Thank goodness for Bitten and H&M
5I don't really like it... looks to much for pregenant ppl
6I have a couple of Elijah tops and they are to die for! I'm a HUGE fan. My fave site for Elijah is Rarechic.com (www.rarechic.com). Neimans also has some too (www.neimanmarcus.com).
7Those are "ruches" (plaits) in French...
8I love this Elijah top but it seems to be quite difficult to wear well (a certain morphology, perfect skinny jeans, high heels, etc).
I forgot to rectify something about this article in my first comment : "rucher" does not exist in French though! It is not a verb (to plait), it's just a noun.
9reminds me of that dress Natalie Portman wore a few weeks ago
10Can any one help me with achieveing dense and even ruching and how to make it stay in a corset or a body hugging piece
