2009 Fall Couture: Chanel
As an ode to simple elegance, Karl kept his Chanel Fall couture collection long and lean with sophisticated strapless gowns, classic suiting, and highly embellished frocks. The designer's play on peek-a-boo with an
abundance of mesh, lace tights, and
high/low hemlines shows off legs in a slightly naughty manner. Sequins and beading also made an appearance in the form of
glittering dresses, which were reminiscent of the '80s and '90s. For color, Karl kept it simple playing with gorgeous jewel tones and noir. While this ivory and black tiered dress does not blow me away, it's still beautiful. Thoughts?

I do like that first dress. It's so dreamy but the model looks like an angry Grandma.
1There are some beautiful fabrics in the collection. I too found the models not complimentary.
2with a few exception, frumpy. and the dresses look like mullets. also, did anyone notice how on the nude dresses (like the one freja is wearing) it looks like someone sequined boobs onto the dress?
3I think Chanel would always have that special place in my heart. Even though I am not the greatest fan of this Fall Collection, I still and intrigued by some of the design such as the nude mini dress. There is something about that dress that exudes the Chanel simplicity and charm.
4There are a couple of pieces that I didn't hate. That's about all I can say about this collection. There was overall a lack of cohesion between the pieces, other than those ugly lace tights that EVERY model had on, and most of the dresses had cheap-looking trains tacked on to the back.
I get that it's couture, but come on, Karl, the clothes should still be interesting to look at and aesthetically appealing. 95% of this collection is ugly, ill-fitting, boring, and many of the pieces looked like they were made in about 20 minutes with fabric that someone found in the clearance bin at JoAnn Fabric.
I love Chanel with all my heart, but this collection pretty much sums up why Lagerfeld needs to retire. This isn't avant garde, it's not couture, it can barely be called high fashion, it's crap.
