Bikini waxing is one of those things that many women endure but very few discuss. Whether you're contemplating your first one or just dreading your next one, you may wonder if there's a way to minimize the discomfort. Though bikini waxes aren't exactly pleasant—the pain falls somewhere between pulling off a Band-Aid and getting a tattoo—there are some things you can do to make the experience more pleasant. Here are some helpful hints to keep in mind.
1. Prep your skin. In the days leading up to your wax, scrub the to-be-waxed area with a product like Dove Exfoliating Body Wash, available for $8.29 here. This will help open up your folicles and prevent ingrown hairs.
2. Scout out the right salon. Yes, there are super-cheap waxes to be had at neighborhood nail joints, but pricier spa-type establishments often use better waxes. Check to see what kind your waxer is using; moisturizing cream waxes will hurt far less than traditional versions.

3. Before you wax, relax. The more at ease you are, the less it will hurt, so once you're on the table, do whatever you can to calm yourself, whether it's taking deep breaths or listening to your iPod.
4. Get the wax off. The residue left behind from your bikini wax can make skin even more irritated. Try using a product such as Gigi Wax Off, available for $5.35 here. It not only gets off the remaining wax but also soothes with aloe vera.

no waxing for me, I use hair removing lotion and it works just fine... then again I'm lucky that I dont grow much hair down there or anywhere hehehe
1it also helps to take an anti-inflammatory (aspirin and the like) beforehand to reduce redness and swelling afterwards. either that or a few shots of vodka lol!
2no thanks boys and girls..i have other ways...
3Not for me..
4sticking to shaving. I heard waxing hurts!
5i made an appointment for an "inbetweenie" wax, which is more than a bikini, less than a brazillian, before i went on vacation. needless to say i chickened out big time and cancelled it. the thought of it alone kills me
6i get full legs bikini and underarms all the time. its soooo much nicer not have to shave for weeks at a clip.
7hey does anyone know how long i have to let the hair grow out before i get waxed?
8wouldn't using an exfoliator for a couple of days make that already sensitive area even MORE sensitive? last was i had i got a horrible purplish "bruise" all down the length of the area that was waxed. it was gone in less than a day but i was kind of irritated. the whole point in getting a wax is because you don't have the obvious signs of hair removal that shaving can leave, to me anyway.
9I was really disappointed the first time I got my legs waxed. It didn't even get rid of all the hair! I was like, I waited almost two months to let my hair grow out only to go in and endure this pain to make it look like I hadn't shaved in a week? Please. I'll take my razor, thank you very much.
10margaretha my friend takes an advil before she goes in
11the only thing I get waxed is my eyebrows!!
12thanks for doing in time, everyone tells me inches and i have no concept of that
13it may hurt but i dont' really care that much...the bf likes it
i don't do vodka
shots b4 hand but ill admitt i had some drink b4 gettin my nipple peirced
14Here's another CRITICAL, CRITICAL tip:
Do NOT ever get waxed the week before your period; blood flow to the skin surface is increased during this time, and you have a much lower pain threshold.
Always, always, always get waxed the week after your period.
15gast - you're right about that. there are some times of the month when you are more sensitive to pain. early mornings are also better than later in the day when you are generally more sensitive to pain. and flutterpie - i heard 10-14 days as well to let your hair grow out. obviously it depends on how fast it grows but you want 1/2-1 inch. less will yield poor results, more will be painful!
16I got a bikini wax for the first time when I was going on vacation to Hawaii. It hurt lots, but it was worth not having to shave while I was there. I actually was red and bumpy for a few days afterward too. I don't think I would do it for everyday wear. I want to have laser hair removal for a more permanent, less painful solution.
FYI - my tech told me that if your hair is not long enough you can get a purple bruise.
17LMAO ok so b4 I go get every hair pulled out of my hoo hoo I am supposed use an exfoilating scrub? And get sand in there to!!!! And then I have to worry with it growing back and being itchy? Ok no thanks lol But u go girls whoever gets em done
18I go to an amazing spa in town and it costs around $50 for a full brazilian. I had gone to a cheaper spa before and paid only $20...I left with wax on my legs, baby powder everywhere, she ripped part of my skin off and so many other horrible things!!!!
I definetly think its the safest bet to go to the better (and more expensive spas). Some spas may be cheap and a great place to go but I had a horrid experience that no one should undergo! haha
So do your research. Ask work colleages, friends, etc. That's how I found my dream spa!!
19I very much enjoy my waxing. It's not too painful after the initial visit. Regardless, I feel that the benefits outweigh the discomfort.
My biggest advice is being familiar with your esthetician. Ask how many waxes they've performed, how long they've been working, etc. The more experienced they are, the better the waxing will be.

21Holy moly, you waxers are brave, brave women. Waxing my brows is almost to much for me. I dont know how you do it. I wish I could steal some of your courage though!
22I didn't find the bikini wax that painful, nor did it change my life like it did for Gwynnie. I found the irritation and redness for days afterward not worth the bother though. I find using the razor more effective...for me anyway.
23i get a brazilian every 6 weeks and my legs waxed at the same time. Take a few painkillers and you hardly feel it, and after the 1st few regular visits it gets easier and easier. Just think no more shaving rash or cuts! And you get the credit of saying you're brave enough!
24You feel sexier knowing you can wear that itsy bitsy g string without hair or shaving rash.
Just remember to exfoliate heaps and dont mousturise the area with anything you wouldnt put on your face.

I've had the Brazilian done several times - only slightly
26painful - and at a well known good spa. Question: last
time I got bumps around the rear and along the inner sides.
I'm still fighting them. Is there a remedy? Has anyone else
had this experience? I need to have another done (husband
loves it!) but am scared more bumps will appear. Is it the
wax or what am I doing wrong? Help!
i need help with my bikini line, its so embarrassing & my stomach..how do i get rid of that hair down there so i can just put on a bikini whenever and not worry about shaving before
