So, remember when I told you about my new Chanel shoes? Well, to my dismay, even after breaking them in with my thick socks, they managed to give me a blister on one of my little toes. Frustrating, no? I was complaining to a pal of mine and she shared with me a brilliant solution - and one that ballet dancers are no strangers to.

Toe tape, like this Bunheads Toe Tape, $3, can be found at any drugstore. It is wonderful because it literally acts as a barrier between your shoe and your skin. Now, before I wear my Chanels, I wrap up my little toe that normally gets blisters, and I'm good to go! The only downside is that if you've never worn a particular shoe, you have to stick the tape anywhere you think you may get blisters. Your whole foot may end up being all taped up, but hey, at least you'll be pain-free!

That Blistex Blister Prevention Stick works pretty well too- good to know that this is another option!
smart idea!
I'll keep this in mind!
i personally would never wear a shoe that gives you blisters, its not worth all the pain. there are plenty of cute shoes out there that are comfortable
I always wear tape or something like it...I don't know how I'd get through the day without it!
oooh. nice tip. thanks!
I need to buy this! Thanks Fab!
this was mentioned, but the bandaid blister block is also sold in drugstores and is completely invisible....and it works!!! go to drugstore.com if you want to read up on it, i recommend it!
I use DrScholl's Moleskin Plus Padding to avoid blisters or calluses. Cut a piece & attach it to either your foot or the inside of the shoe strap.
The Band-Aid Blister Aid is amazing. It acts as a seal between skin and shoe too. It is really easy to apply and works really well! Just another idea...
Cute shoes!
Yikes, the blister in the photo is scary! Looks more like a flesh-eating disease!!
I think moleskin is a lifesaver (especially the padded kind). The adhesive is so strong that it never slips and you can stick to your foot or inside of the shoe.
Thats such a great idea! I need to go buy this. I'm currently dealing with blisters from my cute summery flats. =(
This is a great idea. I don't know why, but I ALWAYS get blisters with new shoes...it never fails. I attempted to by larger...still got a blister, went smaller...blister, until I just realized that that's one of the pains of getting new shoes for me...but this sounds like an excellent idea!!!
Nice tip!
I also love Foot Petals, sold at Nordstrom's and I also saw some at Bath and Body Works. These are nice because they go on the shoe not the foot, making it a permanent solution.
I usually put bandaids on my pinky toes and the side of both my big toes, places that are prone to blisters.. and keep extra bandaids with.. but I think I'll invest in this from now on! A preventative measure is a preventative measure, lol
hmm.. interesting.. cheaper than the band-aid blister block...

how about the band aid stick?
Having studied ballet for 8-9 years, and having been on point(wearing point shoes), and gone through the process of wrapping my toes so that I wouldn't be bleeding by the end of the day, that stuff REALLY does help! ^_^*
Either put talcum powder in your shoes or wear stockings or tights (panty-hose). However, American shoes tend to be made tighter for the same size equivalency than British or European shoes; this appears to be a cultural thing as you Americans wear your shoes tighter, - no wonder you are always complaining about your feet.
This might help as well: Hansaplast Blasen-Schutz Gel.
For more information --> http://www.hansaplast.de/fusspflege/blasen_schutz_gel.asp
It's in german - so just put it into your translator.
Wow.. that's great.. I'm gonna need to get some before my brother's wedding!
Nice tip but will it come off after a few hours? I don't wear the shoes anymore if they give me horrid blisters. But there's an old wives tales in Asia, where you bite gently (literally) at the back of the shoe while saying "I'll bite you before you bite me back". And the harder the shoe the harder I bite. It seems so silly but it does work.
Toe tape really does wonders. Take it from me and I have a ballet past.
As for those who say they'd never wear shoes that give blisters : every person is different. I have never worn ANY pair of shoes without having at least one blister on each foot the first time. No, from stilettos to Birkenstocks : my skin is just very reactive.
gosh i haven't had to tape my toes in years- since i stopped dancing pointe! it does work- though its not always comfy. i'm definitely interested in trying one of those blister sticks you all are talking about, cause like you Bellatrix, i get blisters the first time i wear any shoe! from boots to flip flops, to heels.
I've been doing this for years and especially in summer do it all the time, seriously it works wonders. If I know I'm going to be wearing shoes that may give me a blister I put the tape in my bag.
Bellatrix and meglin1022, I am so glad I'm not the only one. Doesn't matter the shoe...I will undoubtedly get a blister...heck, it could even be slippers, LOL.
They make all sorts of tape and adhesives to go with virtually any kind of shoe. The best part is, they attach to your shoes so you don't have to keep putting tape on your foot. They even have adhesives to ankle straps! It's crazy!
hmmm never thought of toe tape. and it's cheaper than purchasing dr. scholl's products, like i had been doing. nice!
i tried the blister block stick and deodorant (a suggestion from a previous post), and neither worked! i ended up covering my feet in band aids and i still am dealing with some nasty blisters from my slingbacks. i heard you can get pads that strap into sling backs, but target, the supermarket and drugstore all didn't have them. suggestions?
i need to get hold of some of this...it would save me a lot of pain
for my shoes, i use mens' shoe trees. men usually have wider feet, making my shoes perfectly comfy. they work on heels, too, as long as the front is like a peep-toe wedge that wont allow the shoe tree to fall out and give it some tension.
I would sacrifice my comfort for a fabulous pair of shoes in a heartbeat. I have no problem with blisters on my feet...but now I can help prevent them!
I'll need this for an upcoming wedding, my bridesmaids shoes are very painful!
