UPDATE: I have been informed by Sisley's parent company Benetton that these ads are fake. To see the real Sisley fall ad campaign, please visit Sisley.com. Thanks!
OK hold up. Sisley has gone too far with this ad. I normally like Sisley's racy and daring ads but this is too much - too in your face! The line of poking fun has crossed over into inappropriate. This ad is part of a series and if you look at Fashion Junkie, 2, where the fashion vice is alcohol instead of blow, I think that is as far a fashion junkie as Sisley should have gone.
Back in 2004, Benetton owned Sisley was featured in an article about how in France ultra provocative advertising isn't shocking - which is true for a lot of countries - but the US is tighter lipped about such things. While I appreciate sultry imagery and can laugh at a cheeky message, there is a fine line.

There are a couple more things I'd like to point out here. There is some nippleage on the left model - no big whoop really. And, I wonder if Chase Bank is OK with these models using one of their bank cards as a cutting device. As for the clothes, I like the deep purple dress but I really can't focus on anything but the not-so-subliminal message and the weird look in the model's eye. What do you all think?!

Zoppini
Michael Kors
Marc Jacobs
it bores me. am i jaded?
1I think it's funny if you consider how many models are actually snorting. But I can see how a lot of people would be offended.
Then again, isn't the fashion world's job? To offend?
2inappropriate and yet another sad message to send the young girls who idolize fashion and those in the industry
3I love this for the same reason why I love Lindsay Lohan. It's straight-up, in your face, and doesn't apologize or try to cover anything up. I think it's genius.
4I think it's trying to hard, and pretty stupid to boot.
And, is it just me or does it say FASHIOIN Junkie, and not Fashion?? Maybe the freakin ad execs who designed this one are snorting one too many lines themselves. LOL
Stupid all around...
5Inappropriate and the clothes arent the highlight of the photo.
6i'm just not a fan...coke is a serious problem and the media/fashion industry brush over it, hide it and choose to let it grow. i love fashion, but i don't love the message this is sending.
7Um, this is way too inappropriate and over the top.
8even as a graphic designer, i think this is going too far... little girls will look at these glossy layouts and think that this is something to aspire to? sad.
9Now, I am sorta torn.
10First, I think that photography and fashion are both art forms, and because of this, I think that being critical about the appropriateness or morality of a piece of art is both small-minded and pointless.
HOWEVER, this is not JUST art, it is also ADVERTISING, where companies do have a duty to put positive images, especially about drug use, into the minds of our young people.
So, while I appreciate the art of it, I do feel as though the images are inappropriate for mainstream media.
This isn't glamorous and it's totally inappropriate. The model in the purple looks disgusting.
11Terrible.
12i personally don't think anything of it, but i'm thinking about the 12 year old girls who go online or see this in a magazine and think this is cool
13i personally like it alot! actaully.. but i could see how there are many ppl out there who would be very offended by this.. but its pretty sweet!!.. fashion junkie haha
14it is very inappropriate though i get the point of their campaign..but it isnt in very good taste. nice make-up though
15I'm all of artistic expression, and I'm no nazi - if you wanna do drugs, do 'em. I don't, so it's not my problem. However, I think promoting it, or even imitate in a joking sense," we all know it's a prevalent problem in the modeling world...and it's probably not a good idea to show it in some kind of mass advertising. I think it's definitely tacky and improper.
16Isn't coke a big enough problem already, especially in fashion?
This is pretty tasteless.
17i completely agree whiskey
18lame=sad=whatthellhasthisworldcometo=ohwellitstolateanyway
i'm not a fan though i wasn't really shocked by it in any way. as advertising it's not that effective since the only thing i can focus on is the model's blank stare. this would be more appropriate in an art gallery in which case i would definitely like it
19Benetton has always pushed the envelope when it comes to advertising but this is just tacky and stupid I don't know what's worse the Gucci one with the guy pulling down the girl's underwear revealing a G waxed onto her coochie or this one. Nah no contest this one wins hands down.
20Agree, bad message. glamourising drug use is not a good example to send.
21I think this ad is on par with those Bratz dolls, as far as influencing little girls:
From a friend: http://www.flickr.com/photos/antigone/767079084/
22i think what has been going on with in the Fashion world recently: Kate getting caught snorting coke, too skinny models, models dying, etc. the Fashion world really need to direct theirselves to a new direction.
i have a feeling that until a huge, influential model dies from drugs (not going to name names but i have a feeling you guys might have a clue) that's when the fashion world will rethink their priorities but for now i don't see them changing which i think is really sad.
23Since so many advertising campaigns today target tweens and teens, this is highly inappropriate! Adults can laugh it off but kids probably will make the associate of high fashion with high times. We parents have enough to worry about, my negative reaction to this ad will factor into my buying decisions.
24Addiction of any kind is not a laughing matter, and especially drug use. This is just glamorizing drug use and abuse. I'm european and even I would be shocked to see this advertising campaign!
25It seems like so much of fashion photography is an attempt to make some sort of controversial point. So much so that they loose focus of what they're trying to do - sell clothes/accessories etc.
26This isn't right. Girls that look coked out as it is with a credit card with white poweder? What kind of message are they trying to push??
27I think it's funny.
28i completely disagree. to say the drug ad is going too far but the alcohol ad is ok is ridiculous. and probably would be insulting to someone with an alcohol problem. "poking fun" at an alcohol addiction is ok but implying a drug addiction is not?
29Swwonder, I totally agree!
30i dont like the ad at all .. fashion and drugs ... dont mix those too please
31it is defintley racy and not my cup of tea, but they did get the attention they wanted and people talking about them, so in the end maybe it is really good advertising!
32My only problem with it is that it might send the message that drug usage is to be treated laxly. Other then that it's boring
33I have to say..I was shocked when I saw it. Very very in your face. Everyone's postings here have pretty much summed up how I feel about it. It's not appropriate for young girls...or recovering addicts by "glamourizing" it. But it is effective advertising..as it has everyone talking about it...even though I would refer to the ad in conversation as "the models that were snorting the "cocaine" dress".
34I think its really tacky
35Not cool, guys.
Don't do drugs.
Thanks for taking this from BWE.tv without credit or linking back.
36i think its stupid
37hahah i can't believe they did that sh*t, and theres a credit card on the side, to cut what? FASHION? AND SNIFF IT?
38ha ha ha love it
39it's just dumb. i work in advertising, and this is just lame.
40What the hell. They spelled fashion with an extra 'i.' It's all the damn coke.
What a ridiculous ad - too bad they couldn't get Kate Moss. Then it would have been ironic, and I wouldn't be so mad that they can't effing spell their OWN AREA OF EXPERTISE.
Haha, fashioin.
41I like this ad for its part of truth and irony.
42I like this ad for the genius mixture : there are a lot of fashion addicts out there.
I like this ad for the giggle shock I got out of it.
I like this ad because I'm French maybe? That article was a bit of a surprise to me. I didn't know France was singled out for advertising. Then again, I can't remember many cocaine scandals or huge sex parties going on in our country...
sigh...that's just disappointing that some highly paid ad exec can't use his/her creativity and will just resort to models "snorting" a coke dress. not only is it stupid and offensive, but it lacks originality and reminds me of the "Heroin Chic" era of the mid-90's.
43I hate this, like i hate most of the crap adverts out there.
44I don't agree with advertisement glamorizing drugs and addiction. This isn't the first ad I've seen lately that makes drugs sound like a fun and cool thing to do.
45i like
46I don't like. Not because it's shocking, but because it's silly
47ugh. so cliche.
48Oh my Gosh, half of me is shocked and half of me is laughing.
49Shocked because without doubt this is sooooooooo gonna get banned and laughing because it is kinda funny if you don't take it too seriously.
I absolutley love it, fashion advertising is not about being appropriate it's about catching your eye, and it certainly caught mine. I think it's great, fantastic even!
