I'm so excited to share with you all the work of Jessica Kagan Cushman. I've been a fan of hers for a while. She practices scrimshaw (the art of intricately engraving on bone) on fossilized mammoth ivory and uses phrases from movies, literature, and in some cases, New York graffiti, to cover the entirety of the bracelet. Her bracelets say things like: "Are you a good witch or a bad witch?", "Does this bracelet make me look fat?" and my personal favorite: "All right, Mr. DeMille, I am ready for my close-up."
Her bracelets run on the expensive side - $795 for a medium-sized bangle - but they are hand etched on fossilized tusk, after all. Lucky for us, she does her own Look for Less and produces resin reproduction bangles available from Shopbop with the same phrases for a substantially lower price: $125.

Very nice...not so nice price tag. LOL I get bored of jewelry after 1-2 wears
1Not attractive nor cool. There are so many bracelets taht are far way cooler and cuter than these and of lesser price
2$125 is still way too much for that! I probably would wear it a few times and wonder why I bought it.
3Cute but really not worth that amount of money!
4Cute idea, but WAY too expensive!!!
5way too much?!!? its FOSSILIZED MAMMOTH TUSK!!! tho it may be too expensive for my budget, I think its fairly priced for such a rare/unique material!
6I agree...what a great idea..and the phrases are so orignal...I love her choices! But, the price...way over the top!
7Great idea and great bangles!
8I love it!
haha. I love that she produces her own lower-priced version instead of waiting for someone to rip off her idea.
9great post!! i have always thought her bracelets were so cool and creative, but way to expensive, $125 is still a little up there, but defintley a good alternative.
10I'll take one of each in the collection please.
11Don't be shy. You can just ship them right to my home.
I totally agree with AdrianaC, this designer obviously realized that $800 is not for everyone (not that the resin ones are really all that cheap) but made her own knock-offs essentially, more designers should catch on to that!
12Very nice
13blah. not only are these ugly, you can diy them in a heartbeat.
14Not even for $125, but definitely for $12.50
15Sooo cute, a friend of mine actually does the whole bone etching thing for a living. Although most of hers are done as lids for jewelry boxes. I wonder if she'd be interested in making me a bangle >:)
16I think they're very cute! I have one of the Chanel ones that are causing such a stir because they are supposedly a copy of these JKC ones. The Chanel resin one I have is substantially more expensive than the $125 Shopbop ones and I think I will get one! The tusk ones are too expensive, though..
17Uh, I think I'll stick with $1.99 bangles from Target, thanks. I could buy an 18K Italian gold bangle for that price! Are there people that really would pay that much for this????
18I photographed these for a local boutique... but I agree WAY too expensive.
