If you've been noticing the rise in prices at J. Crew on certain items, don't worry, you haven't been seeing things (I noticed it too). Since last Spring, a soft launch of their new luxury line, the J. Crew Collection, has been going on; hence the $595 cashmere jacket or the $1,950 silk gown.
The Collection will include dresses, outerwear, shoes, handbags, and jewelry; basically any area that designer goods usually cover. And J. Crew is serious about their new line: they've forged new partnerships with fabric companies like Clerici, who has provided silk for Vera Wang and Chanel.
This Fall, some of the limited edition items will launch with a mini website, and on April 22, the first store solely devoted to the J. Crew Collection will open in Manhattan at 1035 Madison Avenue. After all, they mean business!

I love this plaid skirt..but it's too expensive for me
1Everthing is great looking except for the blue plaid skirt---it looks like either a picnic mat or my outdoor tablecloth.
2Pretty...but I sincerely hope the fit is better on the more expensive stuff, because something always seems to be a little "off" in their regular priced line...I'll buy something in my normal, street size and it will either be too big, or too small, or have strange gaps in the waistband.....it's a shame really, because I've always liked the clothes (in theory, anyway)
3I don't see this working out for them. If somebody is willing to pay these kind of prices, they're probably not shopping at J.Crew.
4i ADORE J.Crew ♥
5JCrew's regular line is often too expensive for someone on my budget who isn't willing to go into credit card debt, and so while the new line does seem quite pretty (I covet that yellow jacket), I'm wont to agree that those with the means to buy higher end stuff won't be doing it necessarily, at JCrew.
6with that kind of money i'd rather go shopping at Chanel =)
7The thing I've always liked about J Crew and Banana Republic is that you can get some really nice pieces and not pay a fortune for them (especially if you have a coupon). I know they are going to keep their regular clothes but I don't like the idea of them going high-end.
I think the price of clothes is getting insane. Who would have known that jeans would cost over $100 and simple shirts over $200, shoes over $400 and handbags in the thousands. It used to be that the only thing you would spend hundreds on were coats and dresses that you would wear to a wedding or cocktail party. It's like they're asking young women to go into debt. Sad.
8I actually bought my wedding dress at J Crew after finding it on a high-fashion wedding blog as a "get the look for less." It was under $200, silk, and GORGEOUS. But I lucked out - I ordered it online and it fit like a glove - but in the store I haven't been able to find a single thing that fit. I'm not impressed by the movement to jack up prices on everything lately - it's pushing me further in the opposite direction.
9I love the collection! It ranges from femine to laid-back menswear. I can't afford it however it's lovely eye candy!lol.
10I hate most J Crew stuff. Are their jeans still designed by the Seven peeps?
11At those prices I will buy from a real designer and make it a real investment. I think spending that much on something designed by "JCrew" is laughable.
I love their regular line of clothing and wish they would stick to that!
12Too expensive for me.
13Loving the jacket but not their new prices! YIKES!
14prices have been going up up and away at j.crew since the great sell-off of 2003. i miss those old days with the 20 off 80+ freeship coupons. nowadays you JUST get free shipping with a 175 purchase, and you'll like it!! lol.
15J. Crew is all right, but so much of their
16stuff is so flimsy and poorly made. nothing
but a brand.
I have major J. Crew issues at times (like clothing falling apart) but for some reason I stay loyal. I'll probably be all over this. I think it's super cute.
17I love the collection, it's very pretty! The price is a different story. That's too pricey - especially for J. Crew items
18I like a lot of what I see, but I don't think the brand is available in Australia. Then again, I wouldn't be able to afford it, even if it is ... =(
19Yikes! It's cute, but too expensive. Even the regular line is almost too much for me to pay. A simple cotton shirt shouldn't cost $60!
20Wow, they've certainly gotten super sure of themselves haven't they? I agree with everyone, if you're dropping mad cash like that, it isn't at J Crew.
21the quality of their clothes never makes their inflated price tag...
22the quality of their clothes never makes their inflated price tag...
23they are too expensive for this brand ! i'd rather shop from a famous designer
24Love the collection!! No way could I ever afford a thing from it though.
25love j.crew, love the collection, never will ever be able to afford it. (well okay hopefully one day i will be able to but at that point i won't want to.) i'm suprised they haven't debuted some 'name' designers with the collection - maybe they will when they hit the runway.
26Love J.Crew! Too bad it's going to be so expensive
27i don't like it , and i can't afford this.
