Yes, i own a sewing machine and everything, i've actually made dresses, handbags, and skirts haha. I wanted to be a fashion designer when i was younger too. So yeah i've got mad skills haha
When very young I decided to become a painter, bought all the tools for that, from canvas to brushes.
There I was ready to start painting in front of my easel with palette and brush in hand, when I realized that I was not dressed properly for the occasion.
So I ran off to buy some linen, dug out a sewing machine and went to work. A few hour later I was back in my position in front of the easel, this time with a proper tunic - OK, it was
pinching a bit under the arms and one sleeve was a bit to short (too many tries on cutting so I ran out of fabric) but it was my one and only venture into tailoring and sewing, but I can
answer the question with a resounding - YES!
I can sew buttons on and repair a small seam rip if necessary. Other than that I stay away from machines, I sewed my finger in freshman home-ec class so I'm not fond of sewing machines.
My mom has mad skills she even has a clientele for her one off dresses lol. I took a fashion design course and I secretly yearn to be one but my first love is embroidery, I've wone national
competitions.
i have mad skills. i designed and sold purses in high school. i'm trying to get back into it, since college kind of got me off track of sewing. currently, i've completed two amy butler bags
(look up her patterns if you want some cute purses, particularly her madison bags), and i'm designing new bags, wallets, and checkbook holders constantly. purses are honestly my favorite
thing. if i'm not using a designer bag, then i'm using one i made myself! i'm also learning how to screen print, so i'm going to integrate that into my designs as well.
I make dresses for a living, and right now I hand make each and every thing I sell. I have a big old industrial monster machine that's older than I am, but it's a beast and most weeks I'll
make between 30 and 50 dresses (I work looooong hours!). Being such a slave to your sewing machine kind of takes the fun out of it but back when it was a hobby I used to really enjoy it!
Aww this post makes me jealous of all you guys out there with working sewing machines.
My mom was FINALLY teaching me how to sew last Friday but while I was happily sewing... the machine just breaks. Like the needle stopped going up and down. Quite frustrating because my mom
and I need to use it to make some dresses.
Check out your foot pedal Cookie, they're the weakest part of the machine cause the modern, domestic ones usually just have a basic circuit board inside and a tiny little connection that
powers the machine, when that connection goes the machine won't operate. Usually the motors on sewing machines are pretty hardy and long lasting, so if the light is coming on when it's
switched on but the needle won't go up and down it's probably the pedal! I know this because I had to get a replacement pedal for my domestic over-locker (serger) just this week.
I have two machines two!! One my Grandma passed down to me, it's pretty small and portable. And my Mom gave me her old Singer that's built into a side table (it folds down into the table, so
it is completely hidden most of the time). I also do embroidery and cross-stitching.
i can barely sew on a button or sew up a seam. i used to be able to make pillows and drawstring bags on a sewing machine at school but my mom wouldn't buy me a real sewing machine b/c she
thought all i'd make were pillows and drawstring bags. lol
I have a sewing machine (ok - it's actually my sister's that I borrowed for a project and never gave back). I have delusions of grandeur when it comes to my skills. I'm OK - I know how to
work a machine (everything is too long on me so I'm a hemming maniac); and I have made my own patterns for a few things - but really what I need is practice and a class or two.
I sew all my skating costumes, and have been venturing into "normal" clothing and have made a couple tops so far. But usually I use my sewing skills to alter clothing so they fit perfectly
WOW - I'm impressed at so many of you having creative skills with sewing. I have mostly had a machine and I use it sometimes. Not so much now because I'm a knitter now.
it really is easy. start out with simple projects like recycling clothes, so then you're not makign something completely from scratch. just resize a t-shirt! all you need to do is sew a seam!
That was the one thing good that came out of FIDM, I can my sewing machine. I even have a three level tackle like box filled with sewing crap. I don't like it only because I do not have the
patience to sew for very long, but I am about to tackle on a huge project...a mermaid costume for halloween! Yikes!!
My mom recently told me that I don't have to learn how to sew because she doesn't want me to live far away from her and she will be able to mend everything I need for the rest of my life!
LOL!
I would love to be able to sew and make awesome things, but every time I've tried to learn has been disastrous. My friend's mother tried to teach me one summer, telling me that, "I can teach
anyone to sew." At the end of the summer she had changed that to, "I can teach anyone to sew...except for you."
i've made a skirt and lots of bags and easy stuff. my nxt project is a complete outfit (a tunic/dress, a denim shrug with lappels and pockets and jewlery now that im venturing into beading)
and guess wot, im only 13!

Kristin Cavallari went with a black-lace, bra-baring top at The Breeders' Cup Winners Circle Event in LA. She paired it with black skinny pants, and kept things neutral with beige patent pumps and a matching clutch.

My mother bought me a sewing machine for Christmas when I was 13. I was mad at her until I started making some awesome gear.
3i wish i could sew. ppl keep telling me its easy. then why do i still suck at it?
4i have a sewing machine but so far only my roommate has used it!
5I have to contribute a story on that:
When very young I decided to become a painter, bought all the tools for that, from canvas to brushes.

6I can sew alright, but I get so tired of sewing that it just turns to crap. lol.
7My mom bought me one this Christmas too...I'm 42!! hahaha Never tooo late to get some "mad" skills!
8I love sewing I even make my own patterns and copy designers.. I'm such a cheat! Don't tell versace!
9Haha! Ditto Lala and c0rkie!
10I can sew on buttons and that is it.
11I can sew buttons on and repair a small seam rip if necessary. Other than that I stay away from machines, I sewed my finger in freshman home-ec class so I'm not fond of sewing machines.
12I can do minor things like seam repairs and whatnot, but every time I've attempted to actually create a garment it's been a disaster!
13My mom has mad skills she even has a clientele for her one off dresses lol. I took a fashion design course and I secretly yearn to be one but my first love is embroidery, I've wone national competitions.

16I majored in apparel design and can sew like a champ. It is fun once you know how to do it. I spend most of my time making wedding veils.

19i have mad skills and two machines! one I use almost every day and the other is a vintage in-cabinet one. is there ever going to be a diy section???

21I can sew if I really need to, but the needles I can really wield are knitting needles.

23I do the basic stuff no major skills required.
24When it comes to sewing big things I kind of suck, but I can hold my own with a needle, thread, and a button.

27I can sew, but I choose not to.
