Ah, the Hermes Birkin: a mystery to the common fashionista but a confidant to the stars. In the case of Victoria Beckham, the Birkin is more than a friend - it's a lover! She has multiple colors - black, tan, pink...and these puppies go for $7,000 - $10,000 plus. One would be lucky to get one in a lifetime. We're not that lucky, but today, good fortune is upon us in the form of a Look For Less!

If we can't buy a real Birkin, at least we can pretend with a lookalike. This Brooks Brothers Leather Quarter-Flap Bag, on sale for $350 (originally $698) is pricey but a bargain compared to the real deal. It has the flap, the thin double handles and the Birkin-esque buckle. It looks like a Birkin, it acts like a Birkin...it might as well be a Birkin!

I think the Birkin is not only overrated but that there a tonnage more better looking bags out there.
That bag doesn't look nice enough to be $350, nevermind almost $700.
I love the Brooks Brother bag, but I still don't think I would pay 350 for it!
I love it too, but $350 for a bag would break me!
i'm not sure that bag looks at all like a birkin. both are overrated!
in my opinion.. hermes bags.. are the kind of bags that you buy, just for other people to see, that you have THAT MUCH money
The Birkin is definitely more status than style.
Birkins are the most pain in the butt bags to open and close. But, like having 7 diffrent forks for one meal, bidets and SUVs, things that are bought for status are not allways the most practical.
not even close, any handbag addict will be able to tell from a glance
its cute but i have seen cuter for a lot less
I think it is rediculous for people to pay thousands for a bag that is just a "trend". This bag will go out of style in a year and you'll have spent a lot of money on something that will be replaced anyways. What people don't realize is..celebs get paid to carry around these bags to show off the designer's name/design/creation. For US to pay thousands is insane. I don't rely on trends, but instead look for an excellent bag that will last me for as long as i need it and if that is the case i will def. pay 300 for it.
i honestly do not like the birkin. its just not my style, it works for her but id look like an idot walking around with it. ill sstill with my marc jacobs and my louis thank you
I don't really like the birkin bag.. I'm more a burberry kinda girl..
I'm normally all for looks for less, but somehow it seems wrong with the Birkin. I dream of the day that I can afford one. Call me a label wh*re, that's fine. I won't pretend it's not at least half about the status.
I find the Look for Less fine for most things, like handbags that will be "last season" in a month. But a fake Birkin? What's the point? They're made beautifully and are timeless, not trendy. You could carry them for the next twenty years!
i agree with PaleSugar. i'm a big fan of the "look for less" feature but the Birkin is all about status and are extremely well-crafted. you just can't copy the style!
The bag is lovely but I can do without the bag screaming " Please pay attention to me"!
Posh is looking very skinny in this photo!
Pale and Nica, I agree... the whole point of the Birkin is that it is timeless... not something that will "go out of style in a year." And I'm pretty positive Hermes isn't paying anyone to carry it around!
the bag is bigger than Posh...
the birken is overrated.. i don't think it's half as cute as cheaper styles. and.. posh is really scary skinny in that pic. gosh!
Prior to the It Bag craze, purchases like a Cartier watch or a Burberry trench or, depending on your budget, an Hermes scarf or handbag were like milestones. They were purchases of classic design and craftsmanship, something you would have for a very long time and possibly pass on. Now we live in a time of hyper-consumerism where status is preferable to value and constantly changing depending upon what's considered hot. For years I've fantasized about a kelly bag but I haven't lost any sleep over not having one because I can't afford it.
And by the way, what's up with having a ton of these? That's just excessive status mongering. And it's not pretty nor is it chic. How can anything be special when you have 20 of them?
These bags are too Matlock for me.
the look for less is still expensive even though it is half off and it doesn't look like a birkin either.
I want the pink one Posh has soo bad. I love Birkin bags though I doubt I'll ever be able to own one.
I really do love the Hermes Birkin bag, it is a great quality timeless bag BUT the extremely high price range is not about quality but rather about status while keeping the bag exclusive to a few.
If i had the money, i would buy it because it's a classic, but i don't think Hermes is going around giving celebrities $10,000 handbags, for free no matter who they are!
i definitely got a fake croc birkin from a thrift store for about $5. check out shop-sueyboutique.com and akostyle.com for birkin look-a-likes.
The Hermes Birkin is a classic bag. If only I had the money - but I don't!
I can't believe someone said the birkin fad will go out in a year. Uh no. It's been around for a while. Look at pics of Grace Kelly. The birkin bags are the epitome of glamour and luxury. Of Course it's about status. But they're also well made bags, made of good quality hardware and fabric. Its just like anything else expensive. You buy a Toyota or a mercedes. You get a couple extras, but you're paying for a name mostly, and quality. Nothing wrong with that.
I don't care for the Brooks bag and yes, the Birkin is classic. Personally, I'd prefer a timeless Chanel.
I like the Brook Brothers bag, but nothing can really compare to the Birkin. Sad to say, its not meant for us financially decrepit gals. We can't afford!
But if there is a fashionista god out there...make it possible for us to buy a Birkin!!!! Please!
The birkin bag wasn't made when Princess Grace was alive. At least I don't think so. Could be wrong.
I agree Renees3 the Birkin wil go out in a year? pfft! they obviously know nothing....Victoria has been rocking Different coulour birkins for years now! she didnt just collect them all this year....They will NEVER go out of style...well not anytime soon from the looks of things
I just meant Hermes bags in general will never go away. You're right the Birkin was not around when Grace Kelly was, it came out in like the 80's I think but obviously still a testiment to it's longevity and popularity.
This bag is not a very good look-for-less. I have seen various much better knock offs all for under $100.
I'm not sure I like either of these bags, but 300 dollars for a knock-off is kind of ridiculous.
I don't think it's cute at all. It's waaaaay too expensive. I think I'll stick with my Lil Chanel bag. lol! ha ha ha! That's the most expensive bag I'll ever own. lol!
The Brooks Brothers imitation don't cut it. Hermes is a timeless brand. The birkin bag is all about status. If you have the privilege to carry such a bag, people take notice. Personally I like the Birkin bag, and it comes many combinations of color and skins that anyone can find the one they like.
i think if you don't have the money, you shouldn't buy the knock offs...like people don't know that you cannot afford the real one.
I would be extremely excited to own an Hermes bag. It's been around forever! The Kelly bag is absolutely gorgeous and timeless. The Kelly bag became famous after Princess Grace used it to cover her pregnant belly. All of a sudden, there was a 6 month waiting list. The Birkin is named after Jane Birkin. Both bags are gorgeous. Everytime I pass by the Hermes store on the way to work, I daydream .... But I'm not losing sleep about not having one either. It's just a nice, quality, well-made bag. Definitely not a fad. Although it definitely looked cheap when Britney was carrying hers around.
