Phillip Lim has really found his niche, making semi-affordable pieces that ride the line between classic and fresh. Most of his clothes that I see I am really inclined to buy!
Take this 3.1 Phillip Lim Cardigan, $430, posted by everythingnice in the Love It or Hate It? group, for example. I like the the slouchiness of it, and the lace detailing is a nice pseudo-Gothic touch. But does it look like something out of your grandmother's closet?

Oooohhhh boy! Def not for me.
1It might look like a grandmother sweater on a grandmother, but that doesn't mean someone young couldn't rock it. I love it!
2can you say granny one timme??
3oh my gross. my grandma doesn't wear sh*t THAT ugly!
4Hello granny cardi! LoL
5Not for me! Perhaps my grandmother might like it though...hehe
6not so much...
7ummmm...i dont think so.
8looks pretty grandma-ish
Definitely not for me but I bet there is someone out there that could rock this sweater.
9I think it could look good with the right outfit...but definitely not for everyone!
10I looks like a grandma sweater all the way. I won't even make an attempt to wear this.
11I don't like the cut-- too big
12Old people's clothes... ew
13maybe if I was 80
14grandma chic is so blahhhhhhh!
xoxo
153.1 Philip Lim is one of my favorites usually, but this is no good.
16that's like total frump-land.... seriously.
17this may, MAY, look cute with a black mini, opaque tights and some heels, but i dont know if that could save it. This is pretty old school-and by old school i mean qualifying for medicare.
18That's a granny sweater. I do like most of his other stuff though.
19Maybe if it was a little shorter and more fitted. The Mr. Rogers cardigan look doesn't do much for me
20I don't like it
21i kind of like it, but i don't think it would look very good on me...it's kind of shapeless
22LOL TERRIBLY UGLY!
23Too Mr. Rogers for me
24if it was a tinier fit rather than oversize, it might work.
25Ew... the black doilies are not appealing
26I normally love cardigans, and the frumpier the better, but this... eh. The lacework (or whatever it is) is too fancy for such a casual cardigan.
27I agree-- it should be in the Grandma Section!
28Eh I'm a sucker for just about any cardigan...I like the large buttons.
29I think it'll look way better on someone, not just like this if u know what I mean. It looks like it's made out of ergenic cotton..?
30I must say I like. With a skinny patent belt, maybe?
31I like the idea of it. But it looks too big and baggy. Like someone took GRAMPA'S cardigan and put gramma's lace on it.
32depends how you wear it. i like it. add some chunky jewelry leggings and high stilettos and you are faaaar from granny.
33love it.
34Mr. Rogers gone wrong. Very wrong!
35It'd be a cute sweater for someone older, but not for me.
36i could rock this sweater for sure!
37Looks like one of the Behnaz target line sweaters.
38It looks so much nicer in Grey.
39my grandma wears those... and i'm not saying it in a good way, sure i've got a lot of vintage stuff from her that amazes fashionistas everywear, but this is what she would wear now that she's 68.
40ughgly!
41even my grandma wouldn't wear that
42Fugly
43Hate it! I normally love his stuff though.
44It would look better if it was a different shape, cut, color, different details.......
Ya..
Ew.
45I can understand loving clothes our grannies used to wear, but do we really want to be dressing the way they're dressing right now? That is, like grannies? Ummm not me. I'm all for old style glamour but that means from back in the day (50's, 60's) not as seen on old people.
46wow - I don't know whether to throw up...or maybe just buy it!
