Lately I've been pondering why girls wear tie-neck blouses because they're generally not flattering. This Gap Tie-Neck Pintuck Top, $88, from the limited-edition European collection, backs up my theory. It looks too matronly and does nothing for a gal's figure. What's your take?

i love tie-neck blouses when they have a v-neck (and when the ties are thin) because i think they give added interest to sexier tops and make them more appropriate for certain situations. this top, however, is just heinous!
Ewww...not for me!!!
tie necks look great with they are sleeveless and sort of like a halter style...they really show off your shoulders and look really prim and proper...if you throw a cardigan over it, it looks 'long sleeved' but it's totally a surprise when the cardigan comes off and the shoulders pop out!
Ick, there's no shape to it.
Love it, just not on me. It could look lovely on someone with narrow shoulders and a long neck though.
I like how the sleeves look, but I'm not crazy about how the top just hangs there.
If I was a librarian I would get this top in every color. Frumpy, frumpy, frumpy!
I think it's a very pretty blouse. I would never wear it, though. I'm having difficulty picturing it in an outfit also.
It grew on me! I love it.
I guess I like it because a top like that can totally de-skankify whatever you are wearing from the waist down. You can wear your tightest pants or your shortest skirt, and do-me heels and people will still give your virtue the benefit of the doubt. Plus it looks more expensive than it is.
Who spends $88 on a GAP shirt?
Sorry....Who spends $88 on any shirt?
I really like tie necks
I agree, and would add to this category of "Does Nothing for a Gal's Figure":
-ankle boots
-skinny jeans
-tunics
It's horrid. Unshapely and just wrong. Not my style at all.

grrr...definitely hate it
maybe tucked in, under a suit, but I wouldn't wear it loose like that
good grief that looks like something from the 80's.
I usually like tie-necks, although the rest of this particular shirt looks really unappealing. Shirts with high necks and piles of voluminous ruffles and ribbons work much better on my flat bony chest than sleek or revealing tops. Also, they're great for layering. I think they're really cute peeking out from a jacket or sweater, and super-modest tops provide a nice balance for short skirts and heels.
Well put Rugelach! I like pussy bow tops (or dresses) for their very frumpiness! They're like a challenge and I've seen them lok very, very sexy on some people. I'm not thinking of Margaret Thatcher, by the way.
i usually love tie-neck blouses, but this one is just bad. the trick is find an old vintage one in a crazy pattern and then have it tailored to be more body conscious instead of blocky and weird. it's a great look when properly executed.
as long as everything else was slim and sleek and you had some great jewlery, like a wild broach or long gold pentand it could really work.
It is VERY 80's. That's all I'm gonna say.
Ewwww - I think this blouse is channeling all of the unfashionable grandmas's of the world.
It reminds me of something my grandma would have worn.
This looks ridiculously frumpy! Not to mention something I could find in polyester at the Goodwill. A definite no especially for $88
that's hideous!!!!!!
Gross! It doesn't flatter woman's shape at all.
oh, *put an 'a' between 'flatter' and 'woman's'*!
Ugh I'm sure I saw something just like that in my grandmothers closet.
I'm with you Kiki tee...I love pussy bows (I'm also glad to know that I'm not the only person who calls them that). They're one of those things that are totally dependent on who wears them and what they wear them with. They can look cool or awful, there's not much middle ground (having said that, this particular shirt isn't the greatest example).
Hate it.
Pussy bow shirts are gorgeous if they are fitted and in a soft fabric, like silk. This is all just way too harsh. I said undecided.
I'd wear it to work.
it looks like something my grandmother wore in 1982
it wasn't a good look in the '80s and it's not a good look now
Ugly.
i kind of like the matronly look of it. you can sass it up with great jeans and fabulously sexy pumps.
I'd wear it....I just wouldn't spend that much $$$ on it.
I love it, just not in that color.
I completely disagree - I love tie-necks, especially with bows. I like this tie-neck but I hate the bottom - it looks like the bottom of a peasant blouse which totally doesn't go...
Greeting. The reason grandparents and grandchildren get along so well is that they have a common enemy.
I am from Portugal and also now teach English, tell me right I wrote the following sentence: "Hinged front door, triple chime movement, plays westminster, ave maria or bim bam."
Thanks
