It's time for all of us to step in and help on this one. A friend was recently diagnosed with an eye infection and has to wear her glasses for two weeks — starting today. That means she has to wear them on Halloween. She was originally going to be Frida Kahlo (brilliant), but is crushed and does not think it will work with her thick-rimmed specs. She does not have prescription sunglasses, so that's out.

Let's back up and peruse this compilation of cool chicks who wear glasses on a day-to-day. Fast forward, what brilliant costume ideas containing glasses can we think of? She's not really feeling Harry Potter, Ugly Betty, or a Revenge of the Nerd. I suggested a UFO (see picture), but that's me. Speak up, speak specs!

She should totally be Daria! I have glasses and dressed up as Daria last year. It was a huge hit!
1Garth from Wayne's World- all you need is a flannel shirt, jeans & drumsticks
2ooooh daria is good! this is really cheesy, but a few years ago one of my friends who needed a last minute costume was "smarty pants" she put some tape on her glasses and taped smarties to her pants. it was so her, so it worked.
3Velma from Scooby Doo.
4schoolgirl
5Oh, or Sarah Palin.
6Karl Lagerfeld, Victoria Beckham, Liz Lemon or Frank from 30 Rock, one of the Beatles, Janis Joplin, Dame Edna, 80s girl or Paris Hilton in shutter shades, fighter pilot (think Top Gun), Kanye West.

8I think Frida could still work... there are so many interpretations of her already.
9A witch could wear glasses. She could be a librarian. A Zombie Librarian.
I'm going as where's waldo!!! very easy and a cute costume. waldo's girl counterpart is called wilma so she can go as that!!
10Tina Fey, or Tina Fey being Sarah Palin.
I'll add another vote for the zombie librarian.
11Sexy secretary: pencil skirt, white shirt,heels & a bun.
12For me, its all about being an individual... So I'd go as Brad Goreski (aka Rachel Zoe's associate stylist). Most girls already have what you would need to dress as him in their closet... Skinny jeans, white button down, glasses (obviously!). Just add a fun bow tie, pull your hair back & you're complete! Plus, you can act catty all night long, just like he would do...critique the slutty outfits, mock the lame costumes, etc. It would be so fun & so original!
13What about a nerd, a la Steve Urkel?
14i too wear glasses -- i am going to be a librarian, but i really like the daria idea!
15I was Daria once, and was surprised how few people actually had watched the show
I
thought it was a classic!
Daria is a good option, or she could be Karl Lagerfeld.
16Velma from Scooby Doo.
That's what I thought too! I like the Liz Lemon idea too - but it's not too costumy.
17Oh yeah Velma is a good one. I've done that one too and with my friends created the whole cast. Good times.
18She could still pull off Lady Gaga if she wants...or anyone else who wears sunglasses. They sell fit-over sunglasses at most drugstores - they're big enough and shaped to fit over glasses. A lot of old people wear them (great endorsement, I know). I don't like contacts, so I pretty much wear glasses all the time, and buy these as my sunglasses. If you get the right style for you, they can look quite fashionable. I get a lot of compliments on them, actually, and people have no idea that I get them at Rite-Aid. You can also dress them up with beads/glitter/etc, a la Lady Gaga on her album cover. Anyway, just something to consider to broaden the options a bit. For your friend's situation, though, if she wants to be Frida, she should be Frida. Glasses don't matter that much when the costume is cool and the person in it is happy.
19Oh Frida is a a good one! I think she should stick to that one, for sure!
20i have to wear my glasses no contacts ever. its not thattt bad,
21Good morning, Hey! How are you? Happy late Halloween!
