Designer du jour, Catherine Malandrino, showed a bold Spring collection - sometimes, a little too bold. While her feminine and chic designs have recently been celeb favorites I'm not sure we'll be seeing some these newbies grace the red carpet. Malandrino attacked the art trend with fervor and sometimes it hit and sometimes it missed.
Aside from the venue, the Chelsea Art Museum, being over crowded, bold colors and prints dominated the runway. Catherine's strengths - ultra femme dresses, chic tailoring and elegant draping - persevered but her artsy prints and stiff cocktail dresses were questionable. In short, I had a love/hate experience at Malandrino. What do you think?!

I like it. The use of color is beautiful. Not sure I would wear it, I don't usually wear brighter colors.
1Love all the bright colors
2wow!! i love the colors.. especially the orange!!
3love it! very classy and bright.
4i actually like it a lot. especially the interesting sleeves and the color palette.
5Beautiful! I would wear almost the entire collection.
6I love this collection! The orange dress (used as the main pic for the article) is gorgeous!
7Catherine Malandrino can do no wrong.
8Loce her clothes, both girly and bold.
i think if she would just change maybe one thing that went a little overboard in each outfit, they would be gorgeous. the bold colors are fantastic though
9I like the orange dress on the main post!
10Is she really worthy of the title designer du jour? Malandrino has been around for some time (she was featured on SATC and that was long ago enough for them to actually be ready to start filming the movie possibly maybe someday soon). Don't get me wrong, I *adore* her lovely designs, just not sure she's quite as du jour as Preen or Som or Ben Cho...
11Love 1,3,4!
12I loved her collection. Especially the artsy pieces. Don't really like the orange though. But then I hate that color.
13LOVE the colour!
14not weird or boring!!!
love it
I love Catherine's clothes. They are super feminine and girly.
15loveeeee the colors
16The orange dress with the matching shoes is great!!!
17The green dresses are really gorgeous. The main orange dress and the one on the darker model is great as well. I love the color and that she took a risk with the artsy approach.
18this collection lacks a cohesiveness that we usually see from this designer. I aggree with elenakat, some of the stuff just had one too many things going on. Asymmetrical pleating on a dress?? Whats with all the rosettes??? I think its hiding these beatiful women! Clothes are supposed to make a woman shine, but at the same time you are supposed to wear your clothes, not let your clothes wear you. The color is great, but overall this is not her best collection.
19This, J. Mendel and Mara Hoffman were my absolute favorite collections. Love the color and tailoring. And the Malandrino shoes were AMAZING.
