The thing that struck me the most while watching all of the ladies on the red carpet at the MTV Video Music Awards this evening was that everyone was pretty darn unique. Most of the ladies looked fabulous, but not a lot of obvious trends emerged, which I found quite refreshing. We had everything from Mary J. Blige in her form-fitting floor length black gown to a blonde Nelly Furtado in a satin pantsuit, but the four ladies below especially stood out. I love Hayden Panettiere's bright blue satin number, Rihanna's floor-length fuchsia gown, Jennifer Garner's sexy metallic frock and Ashlee Simpson's fresh off the runway BCBG LBD. Which was your favorite?

rihanna's dress is a pretty simple cut, but the length makes it dramatic and the bold colour definitely adds the edge. she pulled it off fabulously!
i would choose hayden as second but i hate the shoes! i'm not really feeling jennifer garner's dress; shoes are ok. ashlee's dress is alright but feels like it's trying to be too much; love her shoes though!!
1rhianna looked the best but couldn't walk in it to well...oh well at least it looked great!
2i liked all of them really. Hayden for the vibrant blue out and about party girl dress. Rihanna for the bold and tasteful va-va-voom diva look. Jennifer Garner for the nice soft refreshing look. and Ashlee for the dramatic yet youthful and simple dress.
3Rihanna looked amazing! While the others looked nice, it's her look that I'll remember for years to come

4i think i would have loved to have seen rihanna's dress in a short version -- or calf length? she can pull anything off ... but i do have to admit - i also like jennifer garner's makeup.. she looks young and fresh

Jennifer for her "complete" look. Riahnna's hair (at least in this pic) ruins a great dress for me. Hayden's shoes lost her my vote, and Ashlee's dress seems somewhat inappropriate for the red carpet IMO.

24Ashlee picked one of the ONLY black dresses in BCBG's new show and wore it. Can this girl ever wear color? If someone else had worn this I might have a different opinion - but with ashlee it's always black, black and more black. And her makeup - she looks like a heroin addict.

I COVET Rihanna's haircut. It's fantastic! I think I would hate that dress on anyone but her. Mad props for not only sitting in it all night, but making it up the stairs.
40Love Jen Garner's dress, the hair, makeup, and the shoes! But I have to say that I do also love Hayden's blue dress, but not feeling the shoes at all. As for Rihanna, I actually really hate the dress. I hate Ashely's dress too, but I also don't like her hair and her bracelet.
41Jen was GORGEOUS. I like Rihanna's dress as well, but she doesn't look right in it. Hayden looked cute albeit a little "safe." I like Ashlee's dress too, but what's with her goth eyes?

46First, I hate the current trend to wear peep-toe pumps in contrasting colors that do not remotely match the style of your dress. Ugh.
I do like seeing all the vivid colors in so many of the dresses at the VMA's. That has always been the fun part of the awards is to see things that normally would not make a red carpet appearance.
But out of the 4 girls... I liked Ashlee's dress/shoe's the best. She looks cute and is dressed for her age.
