Your trinket from Forever 21 is actually what is known as an Iron Cross, and has no associations with Sarah Michelle Geller or even Jesus. It is a German wartime military medal that has not been awarded since 1944. This makes it more associated with the Nazi party who were very fond of it and the Third Reich which was the last time it was used. Kind of like the thinking girl's swastika, if you will.

I love crosses, but I've had to quit wearing them as necklaces. My hair always gets caught up & twisted around any kind of chain I use. It's just more hassle than it's worth.

I'm currently on the search for some fabulous cross earrings. I've been looking for two years! I even started looking in antique stores last Monday. The only cross earrings I have been able to find are the standard plain ones. I love earrings that dangle. Anything but gold, platinum, or silver posts makes my ears itch, so it narrows my options even more. Oh well, I just might have to start designing my own!

Actually the Forever 21 necklace's cross isn't a Nazi simbol (nor is the swastika, they jsut adopted it), and it's also called the Malt Cross, in Spain (among other countries, or so i've heard) it's an honor to receive it in recognition of work in the medical field.

I remember the most recent time crosses were trendy (think Britney Spears kissing Madonna at the VMAs) and I remember the Pope getting very angry about it!

I hate it that people wear crosses because they're trendy. It seems that people sometimes forget that it is a religious symbol!

Sigh... I'm sorry, BatKitty, but I have never heard of a Malt Cross. I've heard of a Maltese Cross, (Cruz Maltesa in your beloved Spain) but it looks kind of different than the cheap accessory in question. I did not say that either the iron cross or the swastika were Nazi originals, only that the Nazis were the ones to get the most use out of them in recent history. And while you are certainly clever to know that the swastika has many meanings, I still do not recommend accessorizing with one. At least, not in my beloved Lower East Side...

Never heard of la Cruz Maltesa(Spanish is a rich language), although Cruz de Malta is what I translate to Malt Cross yearly at the hospital (I did have to look it up, maybe my dictionary has it wrong?), and there are different versions of the same symbol, so that's probably why it might look a bit different.
Wouldn't accessorize with the swastika either, lol...not good for making friends.
