PETA launched a new site today specifically targeting the Olsen twins, who they've re-named "Hairy-Kate and Trashly," the "Trollsen Twins," and re-drawn in an unattractive cartoon form. The site features games, videos, merchandise, and you can even take action by sending the Olsens a letter. This is an aggressive attack on PETA's part — do you think they've gone too far this time?

Ouch. I think PETA needs to slow it down if they want support from everyone.
1You don't bash someone to make them like you - that's what bullies do!
Just like it's PETA members' right to not wear fur & to speak out against it, it's the Olsen twins' right to wear it & not have someone create a website to crap all over them for it.
I'm not a fan of the Olsens at all, but come on -- leave 'em alone for choosing to wear fur.
2I find this amusing...
3Don't get me wrong I am all for animal rights but PETA is taking their activism to the extreme. Its starting to seem like the people at PETA are becoming a little fame hungry over the years. They started out as a quiet group of activists. Now you read about how they trash celebrities or threaten them. Its just obnoxious.
4i'm not surprised that it's PETA doing this - but like all their "tactics" this is also out of line.
5This seems unreasonable. They can protest against their wearing fur, but trashing them like this is out of line.
6Ugh, those PETA people are annoying. If you go against their ideas beliefs or whatever, then you get trashed.
That's wrong, and attacking someone just because they don't have the same belief as you is stupid and wrong. Do they not see how wrong they are in doing something like this?
7I just think that it's a disgusting tactic.. that whole, "You catch more flies with honey" thing? It's true. The "I'd rather go naked than wear fur" ads are so much more effective than a website that has a section wear you can dress the twins in still living, bleeding, pieces of fur.
8i'm not a "fan" of the olsen twins, nor do i condone wearing real fur... but this is a little ridiculous and VERY childish for any kind of "organization"...
9PETA is getting ridiculous. How do they expect anyone to respect their beliefs when they post crap like this?
There are smarter more effective ways to get the message across. This whole thing just makes me sick...
10I think it's funny. Hey, if you can handle wearing a dead animal's pelt around your body, you should be able to handle Peta.
11In fact, I find it a little ridiculous that all the people who posted before me find it so unreasonable. Baby animals and their mothers alike are being slaughtered and turned into coats, but GOD FORBID peta make a trash-talking website, right?
Personally, I would never wear fur. I have the right to make that decision. Likewise, others have the right to wear fur. I don't agree with it, but it's their right.
12PETA is way over the top. Actions like this make me feel more sympathetic towards the fur-wearing Olsen twins than towards PETA... which is probably not the reaction they are looking for. I could never lend my support to an organization that chooses to do something like this.
Oh, and in case any of you are interested, here's the letter you can send to the Olsens.
"By wearing fur and using it in your clothing line, you are promoting cruelty to millions of animals raised and killed for fur each year. Most of the fur you wear and sell comes from fur farms, where animals are kept in tiny, filthy cages and surrounded by their own waste. Forced to stand on thin cage wires, the millions of minks, foxes, rabbits, and other animals never get the chance to dig, play, or do anything else that is natural and important to them. Many of these beautiful animals are killed by having their necks broken or their skulls beaten before being strung up by their back legs and having their heads cut off. Others are killed by anal or vaginal electrocution.
In Asia, dogs and cats are killed for their fur, which is often deliberately mislabeled as "rabbit" or "coyote" before being exported to the United States and other countries. There is no reason to support such a cruel industry when there are so many fashionable and humane alternatives.
I will not buy any of your products until you agree to go fur-free, and I'm encouraging all my friends to do the same. "
13julieulie- How does someone's "right" to wear fur somehow precede another creatures right to not be slaughtered in the name of fashion? That's kind of an absurd thing to say.
14I think it's way out of line.
15Well, I dislike when people wear fur for fashion and it grosses me out.
16People in countries where temps are freezing and need to survive, now that is ok with me. Even though the site is kind of funny its also a bit extreme if PETA wants anyone to take them seriously, its pretty childish. This is something like newgrounds.com would come up with for a joke.
PETA is also a bunch of hypocrits because they kill animals as well, they just parade in their fur after.
Hey fab-sugar... maybe you should post a video of raccoons and seals getting their skulls beaten in and their fur ripped off...
17they just *dont* parade in their fur after
18foxie chill. this isn't peta_sugar
19I like PETA's cause, but their sensational tactics make me want to support other organizations. Why can't they hate human to human cruelty as well?
20And also, just because Fab's reporting on these issues, doesn't mean she condones the use of fur.
21Clearly, it's starting to look more like slaughter_sugar.
22But you're right, my darn lack-of-apathy must be getting me all riled up again. It sucks to care.
PETA is obnoxious. I understand the cause, but to expect everyone in the country to go anti-fur is ridiculous. I love Kate Moss' Fendi fur btw. Olsen girls - don't let these lunatics intimidate you.
23it also sucks to be young and idealistic
spoken from experience.
24I personally don't wear fur but I really don't care if anyone else wants to, that's their choice. I don't force my beliefs on others.
25LOL
26I completely and totally agree with Foxie. So you would kill and toture young, innocent animals so that you can wear something you think is stylish?? B.S. I really don't understand the people that think that wearing fur is okay. I think this PETA page is COMPLETELY FINE. They wear a lot of fur, which is not fair at all. It's completely cruel and inhuman. They should stop wearing fur now!!!
27PETA is a D-Bag.
28I personally don't any fur. I don't think of it as atrocious I just don't happen to findi t all that fashionable. i think the idea that no animal should ever be killed is a little far fetched and unreasonable. The fact is that in the wild these animals have predators so their lives in smelly cages lying in their own waste, while very unappealing to those of us with oposable thumbs, is not really much different than what they experience on a day to day basis in their happy free outdoor lives. I don't think people should be cruel to animals I don't go around kicking dogs or throwiing cats, but PETA is terrorizing people and trying to force them to change their views. I think anyone who says that's ok should think about that for a while. Do baby seals need to be slaughtered? No I don't think so especially not just so someone can wear them as a purse or shoes or a coat. But we all have the right to think the way we want or isn't that true anymore.
29I totally stand by PETA's cause, but they need a more effective approach to promote this campaign. As is evident here, most people think that this is way out of line. By trashing people they are only going to alienate the masses and lose support.
30So ridic. Let them wear fur.
31I found what Peta did a bit out of line. I totally can understand Peta's cause and why they are doing this. But this is too much.
32I'm personally against real fur. I couldn't even wear faux fur either, so usually I totally support this kind of campaigns but this is just out of line.
I also found some of the comments on this post way out of line too. We need to chill and be realistic. But everybody has the right to have an opinion and speak it out loud, so at the end I can totally understand and accept that.
Anyone that agrees with PETA needs to really read their propaganda. I fing hate them. The founder said he would save a dog that was drowning over a disabled child. How can you get behind that? They feel like any type of violence is okay, unless it's on animals? Ugh. As the parent of a differently abled child it makes me absolutely sick.
33So childish! "Meet the Trollsens on Myspace"? Are you kidding me? Grow up PETA, stop bullying people, and then maybe some day you'll become a respectable organization.
34... PETA's founder is a she.
35I don't care if you like PETA or not. Fur is wrong. I don't see what's to argue about when it comes to that. If you don't like PETA, support animal welfare through the Humane Society. They do all kinds of amazing work in bettering the lives of animals while leaving the louder, more in-your-face campaigns to PETA.
lol
36Foxie, you're making assumptions that other people don't already support other animal charities. PETA die-hards believe that owning an animal is cruealty and that animals are not supposed to be "pets" PETA isn't just in-your-face, they're idiotic. Any person that truly believes that a "dog is a man is a fish is a child" should re-evaluate their priorities...And just because you believe that fur is wrong that doesn't make it true. Fur isn't illegal. I, personally, don't own or wear or condone fur, but that's my choice to make, just as it's the Olsen girls choice to wear it.
37FUR is SICK CRUEL and if U were a WELL EDUCATED PERSON YOU WOULD KNOW THAT!!! An innocent life isn't worth vanity get over yourself if u like fur that much its called fake! Come on have a heart!! Foxie U RULE GIRL!!!!!
38It's ridiculous to argue that it is anyone's right to pay for 50 rabbits to be ripped from their skins in order to make a coat. It's NOT right. It's NOT subjective.
39Even if some of these people do already support HSUS, is there really any harm in giving a plug anyways? Give me a break.
It's funny that everyone is saying that PETA needs a more effective campaign. Judging by all the responses here and all the free advertising they're getting, I would say that it is pretty effective. I'm not strictly anti-fur or anything, but I think PETA has a right to target the Olsens, who are totally high profile and adored for their fashion sense. PETA is a political group, so they have to get people talking somehow.
I think it's pretty hilarious.
40@smarter. True. I guess they're hard-core believers in "all publicity is good publicity."
41PETA is so annoying. Seriously, calm down. Don't get me wrong I'm all for animal rights. The thing is humans are a little ahead of my list, it's pretty sad that they are attacking these girls so viciously. All for publicity and in my opinion in just makes them seem juvenile and petty, not the a respectable organization that they claim to be. Instead of wasting time and money on attacking the Olsens, PETA should try to use that money more responsibly.
42“We feel that animals have the same rights as retarded children.”
—Alex Pacheco, Director of PETA. January 14, 1989.
“Six million Jews died in concentration camps, but six billion broiler chickens will die this year in slaughterhouses.”
—Ingrid Newkirk, President of PETA. November 13, 1983.
I cannot believe that anyone would support an orginization that reduces the holocaust to propoganda or diminishes the importance of special needs children.
43I TOTALLY agree with Peta, but this is a wee bit much.
44I think this is totally unprofessional; attacking specific individuals in such a vulgar way.
45Wearing fur is absolutely disgusting. I support Peta's cause, but if they want to do any good with their organization, they can't bully and attack people like this. It's so incredibly immature.
46Well, none of my posts will show, but if you really want to read some of the lovely things that PETA says try here:
47http://fins.actwin.com/nanf/month.200004/msg00047.html
Like I said, disagree with what PETA members have said, but that doesn't invalidate all the light they shed to things no one wants to know about.
48If you subscribe to the idea that any publicity is good publicity, you can join the ranks of Britney Spears. PETA *is* a political organization, so their job is technically to get people to back their cause. Yes, part of politics is attacking but if you are attacking you have make an argument that enough people can stand by in order for you to push your issue.
So in the end, no, this is a commercial failure based on the above.
49Everyone who is commenting that it is their right to wear fur, PETA isn't debating the technical legality of it, they are debating the ETHICS of wearing fur. Even if it is your legal right to do something, it can still be immoral. I'm sure they'd love to outlaw it though.
Look, I actually liked the Olsens, but if you're going to callously wear a dead animal pelt, and you're okay with that, you should probably be fine with withstanding PETA's attacks. The thing with the weight is going a bit far, but I mean, having a website where you can adorn the twins with live animal pelts...hello that is what they are doing every time they walk out the door with a fur coat on. I'm sure it doesn't bother them one bit, or they wouldn't be wearing fur in the first place!
In fact, considering how much they wear fur, I bet they think the whole thing is pretty funny.
