Atonement costume designer Jacqueline Durran chose emerald green for Keira Knightley's character because to her, the hue symbolizes temptation. She certainly found the perfect color (which was a mixture of lime green silk, black and green organza, and green chiffon) because the dress is loved by nearly every girl who has seen the flick.
