I recently purchased this Arden B. Silk Trapeze Dress for $64 (originally $130) to wear to a friend's upcoming nuptials. Two days later, I revisited the site and found it had gone on sale for $30. What?!
First I was thrilled, but then I was mad I had paid the higher price. I pondered whether or not I should call customer service for a price adjustment. Despite my initial hesitancy, I sucked it up, dialed, and waited a good eight minutes to get an operator on the line. I calmly explained my situation and firmly ended with, "I'm calling to get a price adjustment." Without giving me trouble, Arden B. rewarded me my difference of $34.
Notice I didn't ask for a price adjustment; I told. I'm slightly changing the saying "ask and you shall receive" to "demand nicely and you shall receive." Moral of the story? The next time something you bought goes on sale so quickly after, don't shy away; instead, demand nicely and you'll get your deserved deal.

Good for you!
1Cool! Good to know that this is possible. And cute dress. Are those pockets? Love.
2Nice, a $30 dress. Most stores have this policy stated on their website &/or on the receipt and it is usually valid for 14 days. I always check things during that period and will ask for a price adjustment if something is further marked down. No one has ever told me "no."
3I just did this with a coat I bought in the store instead of online last night. Online the coat was $20 cheaper, and I politely asked them why that was since it was the same coat, and this one was more than likely tried on several times when the one in the warehouse has not been.
I was able to pay the online (cheaper) price because of my awesome haggling skills!
4Just to let everyone know.... Urban Outfitters will not do that when you order items from their website. I don't know about the store though.
5Urban Outfitters will give you a price adjustment...or do you mean they won't give you the difference if something is cheaper in the store vs. online?
6You go Fab! Same thing happened to me about 3 weeks ago. I bought a dress on guess.com, 2 weeks later I received their newletter and the dress went from $99 to $42.50. I hestitaed to call at first, then I decided to call the next day and I missed the 14 day period by 1 day but I got my difference back cus they said it's my first time.
7Good for you, Fab!!!
As my mom taught me, it never hurts to ask. The worst a person can say is "No"...and we always move forward from that!!!
8Good for you, Fab. I've done the same thing. It feels pretty good, doesn't it?
9I am still mad about a dress I bought in Express for $70 that went down to $30 the next week...but I could not find my receipt
10Huh... never knew you were entitled to such a thing as a price adjustment. You learn something new everyday!
11I always wondered about it!
12I bought a dress from Bebe for like $120 and then saw it for sale for $80 2 wekes later and was super pissed about it!
You go girl!
13this is new to me...from now on i'll look out!
14Me either Kiki! I've paid much more on clothes many times, glad to know I can get some of my hard earned money back! Thanks Fab!!!
15Lucky you!
16that's a good tip
17Go Fab! I've done this before as well and it's a great tip!
18Usually within 14 days big retailers will offer price adjustments. Go fab!
19i want that dress.. is it gone already??
20FYI-this won't work with coupons. if you buy something, then get a coupon for it later, you're out of luck.
(at least at every retail place i've worked at)
21
Good for you Fab !!!
22Awesome! I would never think to do this, but I totally will now.
23that's cool. I love the dress
24J Crew does this without any hassle
25The dress featured above looks tacky---what is supposed to be like? lingerie? with a touch of cocktail glamour? There are flowers and there are pleats...hmmm tacky.
26Good for you, Fab!
I had to finagle my way around Target's adjustment policy a few months ago. I had bought my husband a new grill & some fancy--expensive--accessories to go with it. Well, two days later the accessories went on clearance. So, I called & sweetly explained why I wanted a price adjustment. They would not do it. I don't remember what their reasoning was, something about clearance prices not being sale items. So, I went in the next day & bought the same accessories for the clearance price. Then I returned the full priced accessories. (Don't worry, they were all still in the boxes & unused!) It sucks that I had to go through all of that trouble, though. At that point, it was a matter of principal.
They ended up making the same money from me anyway, because I bought a few additional accessories that were also on clearance. My husband was so happy!
27Beautiful dress, congrats on the deal!
28i work with customer service department, and believe me... they do not care about helping your situation if you are RUDE. nice customers get excellent customer service and mean/rude customers get the automated response (if they don't have to help you then "have a nice day..bye!")
29I love the dress! It is unique and cute!
30javsmav, about 2 years ago.. I bought something off urbanoutfitters.com that went on sale two days later on urbanoutfitters.com and they would not adjust the price.
31I was really really polite too because i know how it is. I use to work customer service.
32Fab, I thought that if an item purchased at some store is discounted then by law the patron has a right to get a price adjustment within 14 days. I could be wrong, but even if it isn't actually a law it's common store policy.
33actually I need some advice. I bought this coat on sale for $40 on zara like a day ago, which is great. Then I saw this belt was missing on the coat, so I went there wanting the belting that was a part of the coat. cause damn I paid for it...
34So.. I went to the cash register to talk to the woman in charge, and asked her for the belt, she goes look for it, and surprise!!!!Theres no belt, they look sort clueless..
Then I said that, I thought I saw 2 coats just like mine left and they might have a belt on.. So I went to the section where I first found the coat, and saw other the other 2 with the belt one. So when I get to the cash register, I notice the price and its $30!???? So they gave me the belt, and I left confused cause the same coat I bought hours ago with a different price tag... I KNOW, I should I have said something, damn I was stupid... but, I want your opinion if the coat is still there with that lower price, I should go there and reclaim it right!? its only been a day since I bought it.
Thanks.
that dress is too close to white to wear to a wedding. bride might be offended.
35good deal and great tip!!
36I've asked for a price adjustment before at the Gap on a dress I bought...it was $79 and a week later, it was $29.99. I had no problem getting my money, they were very nice about it. So I agree for sure, don't be afraid to ask!
Oh, and I love that dress!
37This dress is gorgeous!!!!
38I bought a dress from Neiman Marcus website for 120+ dollars and 15 days later, the same dress went for 50% off. I called the customer service and asked politely but they said price adjustment has to be within 14 days and that I have missed it by one day. Really bad luck because 60+ dollars is a lot.
