I don't think that underdressed necessarily means "sloppy" like some of you are saying.
I tend to underdress, because I'm a super-casual person and I hate the discomfort of pantyhose, high heels, etc. So I might dress a level down from everyone else (jeans instead of skirts) but
I always make sure that everything is clean, ironed, and accessorized.
It's quite possible to be casual and underdressed and still look chic and stylish.
For me, I'd rather be underdressed. I don't want to look like I was so eager to dress up and tried so hard to look fabulous. When thhis happens, I let my personality shine.
It depends on where you live, and your workplace. I'm in Southern California, in a casual workplace, so overdressed is over the top. I think most of the women would view it as showing off and
self-indulgent--not a good way to build rapport in the office!
I work in a super casual environment (read: jeans, sneakers, and sweatshirts are the norm), and while it's fantastic on days like today when it was freezing cold outside and I'm sick to just
throw on something comfortable, 95% of the time I am the best dressed in the entire department. How I dress definitely effects my moods -- if I dress down, I always feel sloppy and tired,
whereas if I force myself to dress better, I tend to feel better. Exception, of course, when I am sick -- then I feel miserable either way, and I'd rather just be comfortable!
It depends on the situation... But for my age (20) I think it's usually better to be underdressed. I always make an internal observation when I'm at a nice restaurant and see people who
obviously didn't come from another event but overdressed for the restaurant. It's better to seem as though you couldn't care less. At a nice party, where most people are wearing cocktail
dresses, would you rather have on a day dress or a ball gown? A day dress, definitely.
Overdressed... like julieulie, most of the time, I'm the best dressed in my department. But I like the compliments. Being dressed up makes me feel ready to take on the world.
i'm in between. since i tend to wear pants and not dresses, i always look more tomboyish than all the other girls who LIVE in dresses/minis BUT i also tend to look more trendy/grown up
(button down shirts, blazers, etc.). i'm overdressed and underdressed all at the same time if that makes any sense
It's the underdressed attitude that makes everybody go out in their jumpsuits on a regular basis... Because if they already are underdressed at work, then when they're not working=tracksuit!
I am all against tracksuits when they're not used for staying at home or jumping, running..., and most of the time they're not! The "tracksuit mania" was started by celebs candids because
paparazzi only 'catch' them going to the gym! Go overdressed, look your best!

In this week's Gossip Girl, Blair Waldorf demonstrates that there's nothing like a red sparkly dress to make you stand out at a party. Although her exact Marchesa dress isn't available online, this one is quite similar.
From brushing your way to Demi Moore's hair to faking a glow like Ginnifer Goodwin's, stars and their hair and makeup stylists share their top tips for getting gorgeous
I learned that quote from one of my coworkers. Definitely better to be overdressed in my opinion. Can't go wrong with looking fabulous
1I would rather be overdressed and look fabbo rather than sloppy and underdressed.
2I hate the awkward feeling and constant comments I get when I'm overdressed. I feel like people don't comment as much when you're under dressed.
3I'd rather be overdressed for sure...much less embarrassing. And at least I'd still look great, overdressed or not.
4I'd rather be casual and comfortable in e.g. school but I always think that overdressed is better at formal events rather than feeling sloppy

13If you are overdressed then you can always wear a coat or take off your jewelry!
14It's easy to go for overdressed when I love dressing up to begin with.
15i HATE feeling underdressed. it makes me feel un-fab. that's the only word for it, and it sucks
16I dunno. I think I am more in between.
17It all depends on the weather too as well...

20I've been overdressed more than underdressed.
I just have to say - I am in love with the photoshoot this picture is from! Good choice

23I go by something a friend once told me - "You can never be overdressed for an occassion. You'll just look better than everybody else!"
If I'm overdressed, at least I know that I look good. And if I look good, I feel even better!
24Please, I dress up just for class!
25Always overdresses to not risk looking like a slob.
Perfect picture.. one of my fav movies!!
26rather look the best than look the worst
27I'd like to say underdressed but I'm usually overdressed

30I hate feeling underdressed, so, OVER. but, unfortunately @ my age, & the people I know, I am sadly the only one who really likes to dress up.
31I'd much rather be overdressed than under.
32I hate being the only one who dresses up. But it happens.
33Overdressed & best dressed never hurt anyone.
