This week we bid farewell to award season with the most glamorous show of them all: the Academy Awards. We made sure to keep you up to date on every red-carpet style moment, from Jennifer Lawrence's stunning Dior gown to Anne Hathaway's triple gown change. The shimmering metallic gowns, red-hot dresses, and sleekly tailored lighter numbers helped to close out what might have been the most fashionable award season yet. Our coverage didn't stop when the show did, though — read through our ultimate 2013 Oscars recap to check out all of the best looks from the afterparties, too!
The rocker chick always has a place at Jean Paul Gaultier, and for Fall '13, she's taken on a distinct '80s punk vibe. Wherein, the styling is subtly subversive and the confidence of the Gaultier woman is bolder than ever. Models (with punk-inspired wigs) took the runway — as "Iron" by Woodkid played overhead — in an assortment of off-the-shoulder silhouettes mixed with loud jewelry, printed and patchwork-infused pieces paired with sweeping floor-length outerwear, and of course, the designer's signature strong-shouldered blazers and pantsuits with a metallic sheen. As for the finale? Models posed seductively behind a Jean Paul Gaultier-monogrammed light screen, which projected their shadowy figures to showgoers like a scene from a vintage burlesque number. For Gaultier, though, this kind of epic rock-star showmanship is par for the course. See all of the looks inside.
The anticipation leading up to the Christian Dior Fall '13 collection was parlayed into expectations met — and exceeded. Designer Raf Simons delivered statement coats, artful strapless dresses, and intricately crafted knitwear, each piece more beautiful than the one before. And really, how could you not think this lineup dreamy? The scene itself was dreamlike, as models walked down the blue-skied, silver-ballooned runway. Don't waste a moment more — see why the Christian Dior Fall '13 collection will (most likely) be spotted on Jennifer Lawrence, Marion Cotillard, and Charlize Theron very, very soon.
We asked, you played (the bracket) — and the 2013 Oscars best-dressed winner is . . . wait. Before we announce the winner, let us also pay homage to the ultrachic "runner-ups," all of whom showed off — and stood out — in equally stunning gowns. From the dramatic ruffle-tiered dress trains to superformfitting corseted bodices to one excellent use of silver sequins, it was all undeniably no-holds-barred glamour on the Academy Awards red carpet. We've got Kristen Stewart, Nina Dobrev, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lawrence, and Charlize Theron all in the mix, so click through to see who earned honorable mention and who took this year's top spot!
Paris Fashion Week shows no signs of slowing — both in excitement and in the Fall '13 collections — and our editors are in the midst of it all. We caught up with them (en route to another show, no less) to hear the verdict on two of our favorite designers' shows: Isabel Marant and Roland Mouret. Marant surprised with a much sexier lineup, with an emphasis on nail-stud detailing and cutouts at the bust. Meanwhile, Mouret delivered geometric perfection and just one sleek gown for evening. For the complete rundown — straight from PFW — keep watching.
Spring is here — well, not quite yet — and we're more than excited to swap out our heavy Winter gear for lighter layers and pretty prints in anticipation. This month, we're transitioning into the new season with an array of colorful bags, dresses, and, of course, gorgeous sandals and jewels to polish it all off. Additionally, we found the perfect pair of cool shades to block out those harmful UV rays and an adorable floral-print baseball cap to stylishly hide those occasional bad hair days. The button-downs were finished with oversize bows — maybe the clearest representative of the boy-meets-girl feel that ran throughout Viktor & Rolf's Fall '13 lineup. Where there were mini hemlines, ruffles, and drop waists, there were sharp double-breasted jackets, vests, and smart loafers to counter all the leg baring and femininity — a perfect marriage of the delightfully girlie and the charming and boyish. From start to finish, the show ran entirely in black and white — save for the red footwear that punctuated a handful of the looks — making textural play crisper and easier to spot, like the furry white details on head-to-toe black suiting or a furry black coat finished with spots of white patches. It's a story of little dichotomies — black and white; sweet and masculine; sharp and soft — that add up to something very pretty without the bells and whistles. It's time to show your stuff while staying chic. This Spring trend is sheer genius, looking great at the office or on a special night out. We've fallen in love with this polka-dot sheer shirt that's simple, stylish, and sweet. Not sure how to add a bit of sheer chicness to your wardrobe? It's easier than you think:
- Wear with a matching tank or cami: For a seriously chic sheer look, wear with a skin-colored camisole, opting for one made from a silky fabric, which will keep the blouse from bunching. Or accentuate the sheer shirt by pairing with a same-colored tank.
- Top with a cardigan: Not only does a cute cotton Spring cardigan look adorable over a sheer blouse, but it also offers just enough coverage to keep things classy with a touch of peekaboo sweetness. Or top with a fitted jacket for an adorable day look.
- Mix and match patterns and textures: We love how this sheer blouse has just a bit of dotted texture, which makes it darling paired with a lace skirt or skinny jeans. And those polka dots give the sheerness just a bit of distraction, making it a perfect top for any shape.
