Sarah Burton took the dramatic route for Alexander McQueen's latest set of Fall ads, featuring Raquel Zimmermann. Shot by David Sims, the apocalyptic setting depicts a glowing Raquel wearing Burton's intricately designed pieces for the fashion house. The contrast between the dark (desolate valleys and burnt ashes) and light (Burton's highly artistic designs) surely catches our attention — do you agree? I disagree that these are the same, but they do posess a similar tone. This may be because of the ad agency, marketing team, or artist who designed the ads - I don't know how Alexander McQueen (the company, not the man) does it, but the designer doesn't usually have much to do with the advertising. I don't like these at all, though. The old ads were creepy, dark, wierd, and/or disturbing, but they weren't awkward. Rather, they took things that aren't normally considered beautiful, and made them haunting and interesting - just like McQueen's designs. These are a little convuluted...
