Crop Tops and Bras Got the Cannes Seal of Approval This Week

It takes a lot to shock us — trust us, we've seen it all. But this week, 10 very stylish women managed to do just that, whether it be with unexpected hues, with unprecedented silhouettes, or — as in the case of Jennifer Lawrence — by introducing a once-taboo sliver of skin to the most glamorous of red carpets.

Stars like Marion Cotillard, Julianne Moore, Chloë Moretz, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley certainly kept us on our toes at Cannes this week, while others, like Diane Kruger, blew us away by merely not attending the festival. See all the looks we loved on some very chic ladies.

Marion Cotillard stunned us by opting not to wear Dior, but rather Alexander McQueen's gothic design, when she arrived for amfAR's Cinema Against AIDS Gala.

True, Freida Pinto likes bright hues, so this Oscar de la Renta gown should have come as no surprise to us. Still, nothing could prepare us for how good she looked at the Cannes premiere of The Homesman.

Jennifer Lawrence officially gave crop tops the Cannes seal of approval (and is there any higher praise a garment could receive?) when she wore Christian Dior's pretty set to the Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 photocall.

Chloë Moretz was nothing short of très chic when she charmingly embraced the theme of Cannes with a nautical ensemble at the Clouds of Sils Maria photocall.

How we haven't spotted Diane Kruger yet in Cannes is a mystery to us. Still, she did her part to add style to this week by stepping out in Giambattista Valli's pretty cocktail dress at the George Foster Peabody Awards.

Was it a bra? Was it a gown? Cushnie et Ochs's design was a bit of both, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley wore them flawlessly at the Fatale in Cannes party.

The color-loving star added Atelier Versace's shocking hue to her repertoire, when Jessica Chastain arrived for the premiere of The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby.

Were those fleur-de-lis a clever reference to the New Orleans Saints? Either way, Olivia Munn scored in Georges Hobeika at the Sports Spectacular Gala.

Julianne Moore

Julianne Moore may not have anticipated the windy conditions on the Maps to the Stars red carpet, but the climate only enhanced the allure of the actress's plumed Chanel Haute Couture column.
