Even as a fashion professional, I have to admit: ever since the Birkenstock erupted on the scene , I've been nursing thoughts along the lines of, "How exactly do I wear them?" I had to give myself some time to get into them, but now I'm in the pro-pool-slide camp (in fact, as I'm typing this, I'm sincerely hoping the FedEx man is ringing the bell at my apartment to deliver my own pair). The clunky flats have been floating around the shopping sphere for awhile , but a long, snowy Winter hasn't offered up a ton of stylish outfit ideas for us to copy. Until now.
Blogger Lucy Williams put together this combo of slightly rolled black jeans, striped shirt, and camel coat — all classic pieces we've all been rocking for years — with her Isabel Marant Holden slides, and just like that, all my worries dissipated. Her outfit feels approachable, comfortable, and even a touch preppy, a real surprise when you remember that her sandals were previously sold in the orthopedic category.
Armed with her outfit as inspiration, we're encouraging everyone to step into Spring with their own good-for-your-feet pair. And if you see someone walking around Manhattan in the next few months looking exactly like this, well, you'll know you've found me.
