Hi. It's Allison McNamara and you're watching Fab Flash. Brad Goreski walked me through Kate Spade's Parisian Fall 2012 presentation which she expertly styled. He also gave me a few tricks on how to wear these printed pieces. Okay. So tell me about Kate Spade's Fall collection, how you styled it.
Well, Debra's whole vision for this collection was Paris, joie de vivre, young French girl, and so I came in a few days ago and edited the collection down and we've come up with it, fantasia incredible outfits which, you know, when I'm styling for Kate Spade I really do have the everyday girl in mind.
You know, it's obviously a very poppy, punched up version, but the great thing with Kate Spade is that the separates are so easy to incorporate into your home wardrobe, whether it's--one of the big things this season is the polka dots, so whether it'spolka dot gloves you pair with a pair of jeans or a little polka dot clutch.
There's polka dot heels, too, which are a great way to kind of...a white button down, a cute little skirt polka dot heels, you know, you're done. I love it that. I've seen a big mix of like the formal and the informal. Tell me about how you do that because you seem to like it a lot. Well, the Kate Spade girl is very much a girl who likes to party.
Okay. She's very classy, though. She likes to go to a cocktail party and socialize, which is where these amazing, original illustrations have come from.
Okay. So it's all about, you know I think sometimes people take evening wear too seriously or dressing up at night too seriously, and the great thing about is that they really have a sense of humor and there's always a little bit of quirkiness.
And I think that really carries over into the evening wear as well. Whether it's a "Pardon My French" t-shirt with a collar necklace or it's a little tiny black dress with a bejeweled collar and a bright red coat. There's always some sort of exuberance to it, an extra little bit of zest. That's what the case made New Yorker it''s all about.
We're hoping, you know, to see this everywhere. Girls glittering and sparkling and polka dots everywhere and always a pop of color. Totally. What are a few of your favorite looks from here?
yah, You want to show me them? alright, let's go. This is the Pardon My French Girl. she's ready to go to a cocktail party. She's just thrown on her favorite graphic tee shirt with her little bit jewel color necklace, her bow belt for a little bit of sweetness, and of course this ra-cha-cha feather skit.
But she's a girl with a little bit danger. So she has these little...Cool nails! Look at those. ...little black and white polka dot claws, you know. She's sweet, but she's not to be too messed with.
Totally. How else could you style this already. You have it with a key right now but how else can you wear it? I think it'd be really cute with like a little half sleeve cashmere sweater. It would be pair it with like a denim shirt. Okay, that looks super cute. Cute, right? Very cute.
A little necklace.
Maybe not the collar necklace, but maybe the Eiffel Tower necklace, something fun and cute. Very cute. What's the "must have" piece for the collection? I would say the "must have" piece for this collection would be the polka dot coat. Oh wow. I'll go over and look at it. Yeah. Oh, wow, this is just amazing.
I love the fuchsia gloves. One of the main themes of the collection, like I said, was polka dot. So we have these blown up, magnified, really graphic polka dots on this tote, we have the question mark bag, and then we have the polka dot heels as well. So it's very much still in the [xx] New York aesthetic of mixing patterns and then of course we always have a pop of color.
So I'm a very big supporter and proponent of when dressing up for winter, as you are, It's cold outside! Yeah By keeping it really chic and keeping a sense of humor and keeping it lively. Definitely. You know I think that this is a great way to, you know, you want to put on a pair of tights and go to brunch or go out shopping with your girlfriends put it on with some jeans.
It's really versatile and very, very chic. What's the key to mixing patterns? 'Cause polka dot and polka dot, that can be hard. Yeah. You know it depends the kind of girl you are. We have, I had to show polka dot look, the big polka dot blouse, polka dot trousers, polka dot shoes. If you're that type of girl who really, really likes to stand out in a crowd, that's a good way to do it.
But I think mixing and matching the sizes is really good, like, keeping one one like micro. You can even do like a little micro dot on your leg. So go all the way. I love it.
