Calvin Klein Collection Resort 2014: Midriff-Baring For the Sophisticate

Calvin Klein Collection Resort 2014: Midriff-Baring For the Sophisticate

For Calvin Klein Collection Resort 2014, Francisco Costa offered up something equally new and familiar. The palette is one the Calvin Klein loyalist knows well — neutrals with a splash of deep green and blue — and the silhouettes? Long, lean, and structurally minimal — a perfect storm of tailoring requirements. And thanks to an abundance of wide belts and zipper fronts, the urban utilitarian motif from Fall 2013 held strong. Meanwhile, crop tops (in black-and-white iterations) prevailed as the collection's bread and butter, giving way to an overwhelming push for skin-revealing dressing.

But don't worry about a resurgence of '90s-inspired belly-baring looks here. Costa's lineup was marked by a new kind of luxury. Be it gorgeous textures (think ultrasuede, nubuck, and ostrich) or the designer's nod to artist Ellsworth Kelly's work space by virtue of colors used, Resort supplied a very sophisticated mix of pieces. All looks were completed with architectural crisscross sandals, an apropos accent for a collection deeply rooted in clean constructs and effortless styling.
