We're Already Picturing Lupita Nyong'o in Calvin Klein's Fall 2014 Collection

Clearly, the snowfall outside Calvin Klein Collection's Fall 2014 show wasn't just on showgoers' minds. Francisco Costa had chilly temperatures at the forefront of his, too, while designing the label's cozy collection.

But before we could get to the plush mohair looks, our thoughts temporarily drifted to a warmer climate with Lupita Nyong'o seated front and center between Naomi Watts and Anna Wintour. We were suddenly transported to Hollywood with the hope that the 12 Years a Slave nominee would walk the Oscars red carpet in one of Costa's modern gowns.

But we were quickly brought back to the season at hand, because like the city, these designs were firmly planted in the cold-weather months. "The basis of my Fall collection surrounded knitwear, which translated into a warm, textural coziness," Costa described. "It had an overall sense of ease but with an urban element woven throughout." To that point, snow-white and black textured mohair shifts, skirts, and coats were surprisingly relaxed (were those oversize safety pins keeping those jackets fastened?) while staying true to the label's DNA with the sort of sleek structure we'd expect. Calvin Klein's take on the sweater dress was a pared-down riff on the motif: chunky, striped turtlenecks and pleated black numbers flowed and gave the minimalist a snuggly layering option. And those lace-up leather boots would make navigating any terrain as smooth as a walk down the red carpet.
