When it comes to flattering waistlines, Carolina Herrera takes the cake. This season, she showed a bevvy of beautiful gowns in vibrant watercolor prints and shimmering sequins, offset by touches of black, fur accents, and waist-defining belts. View her entire collection on the runway here!
Carolina Herrera is known for her classic yet dramatic pieces, so it just makes sense that her Fall 2012 hairstyles would reflect that aesthetic. Working with Orlando Pita (at Orlo Salon for Moroccanoil), Herrera's models walked the runway with coiffures he described as "really graphic, but not too romantic."
And while it's probably not practical to wear the big-time bouffants seen in the show, there's an easy way to get the gist of the style at home. Learn how to pump up the volume and to make your own Herrera-style headbands now.
Carolina Herrera delivered her quintessential elegance in brilliant red gowns, shimmering red-carpet-worthy dresses, and refined separates for her Fall collection. Pleasing both the celebrity clientele and polished working women, Herrera displayed her magnitude for the classics and modernity in one graceful swoop. Classic ballgowns were sharpened with angles and diaphanous silk dresses were swept with artistic brush-stroke prints, most of which were cinched in with Japanese obi-inspired belts. Meanwhile, for the working class, Herrera paired knee-length wool skirts with an array of sparkly, fur, and feathered sweaters, cropped jackets, and wrap coats doused in one of our favorite color combos: navy and black. More details from the collection below.
- Trends: Black and navy color combos, full skirts.
- Colors: Black, navy, red, gray, purple, mauve.
- Key Piece: We can't wait to see one of the architectural ballgowns on the Oscars red carpet.
- Accessories: Wrap obi belts, wedge pumps, long leather gloves.
- Who Would Wear It: Michelle Obama would look amazing in the skirt suits, and we'd like to see front-row attendee Renée Zellweger in one of Carolina's magical ballgowns.
>> Brush-stroke prints, watercolor swirls, and architectural layers made up Carolina Herrera's artist-studio-inspired Fall 2012 collection. The designer's signature nipped-at-the-waist gowns were done up in bursts of red, plum, and baby blue, with black and gray providing graphic contrast throughout.
Soft and pretty was the name of the game for Dianna Agron at the SAG Awards. The Glee darling hit the red carpet channeling an ultra-femme look in a ruffle-front pink Carolina Herrera gown — but it's her gorgeous fishtail braids that really got us gushing. She complemented her romantic hairstyle with a delicate pair of earrings, sweet rosy cheeks, and a soft sultry eye. Thoughts?Vote on all of our SAG Awards polls here!
>> A few furry sleeves may be thrown into Carolina Herrera's Pre-Fall 2012 collection, alongside the blue-tinged poodle prints inspired by her dog, Gaspar. But a large part of the offering is also diaphanous. "What Pre-Fall means is Spring," Herrera explains, as these pieces will hit stores in May. "This collection is a continuation of that. Women buy these clothes to wear in summer."
The Breaking Dawn Part 1 premiere took place in Los Angeles yesterday evening, and all of your favorite Twilight stars hit the black carpet for the occasion. Kristen Stewart, wearing a gorgeous J. Mendel number with a thigh-high slit, told us that she was relieved when she finally saw Bella's wedding gown. Watch to hear about the inspiration for the dress and make sure to check out the entire wedding scene when the movie opens on Nov. 18! On Allison: Topshop blouse.
Carolina Herrera was on the black carpet last night at the LA premiere of Breaking Dawn Part 1. She walked part of the way alongside Kristen Stewart, for whom the designer created a lavish wedding gown! Carolina spoke about the process of constructing the dress, saying, "I approached it the same way because brides are always the same everywhere!" There were also rave words for the "fabulous" Kristen and details about their many fittings before the actual movie shoot — see what Carolina had to say!
>> A case of the Mondays didn't appear to drag anyone down backstage yesterday at Carolina Herrera, Marc by Marc Jacobs, and Ohne Titel. We caught high-energy moments like Karlie Kloss and Jourdan Dunn getting some best friend time in — in their Carolina Herrera gowns; Shena Moulton and Daphne Groenevold playing tug of war with their Marc by Marc Jacobs runway bags; and a staring contest going down backstage at Ohne Titel. Those snaps, plus more, in the slideshow.
